Got an order to saw a load of hemlock lumber and beams on my sawmill.
Perfect use for the pile of sawlogs sitting on my landing.
It’s turning into a busy retirement hobby![]()
Amazingly, after cutting 1000’s of feet of sawlogs and many tons of pulp, I have not had a single shaky tree.Do you have much of a problem with shake in your hemlock? It seems to be problematic in some areas here in Caledonia county including my lot. The mill I used to use before they shut down a few years back would not buy Hemlock sawlogs from Caledonia because of it.

I did not know this until about 15 seconds ago! That's goodYou are lucky. It is caused by a bacteria in the soil that enters thru the root system. Probably why infections are localized vs random. It used to be considered a symptom of strong winds but that has been proven to be false.

I had always heard the "strong winds" theory, but was a bit suspect of it, since I found shake in Hemlock that was very well sheltered from winds. That's goodYou are lucky.
