White pine is fine. I have an abundance of field grown knotty pine I am weeding out and burn for kindling. Pitchy hot stuff.
I also use my own firestarters. My wife and I had a candle business for 20 years. Our process produced unusable scrap wax which we mixed with wood shavings in portion cups. We sold these as a sideline to campgrounds. I kept a good supply for us when we closed shop.

90% of my wood harvesting happens in February and March. No yellow jackets, no poison ivy, no spiders, no snakes!

Sometimes you can't choose the time, I remember spending most of summer 2019 in the woods, after a tornado ripped thru our area in May. But most years, I try to put that work off until at least after Thanksgiving.
yeah I also get my firewood during the winter mostly because it’s easier on sled, I start trail maintenance in September and I hunt while doing it.

That's seems like a clever way to enhance your business. Make a useful byproduct from scrap. Hat's off to you and your wife Hoobie (y)

Happy Labor day to the folks that frequent this thread.

It's kind of a marker for end of Summer...let the Wood season begin!

Appreciate all of you guys...

Happy Labor Day to you too. This is a good thread. Lots of contributors with varied methods, equipment, ideas, and reasons they do what they do make it interesting. Always something to learn and/or think about.

You are right about the extra urge to work on wood when Labor Day arrives. I had the tractor in the woods today. First time in a couple months it's been so wet here. Still is but much better now. Had to blow off all the pine pollen and needles it had set so long.

Like the dogs w you.
Mine can only come if not felling.
I bring mine with me all the time, They don’t like the chainsaw so they stay far away from me which is good. I will have to watch the new addition she likes to stay close but I will tie her up if I have too.

Got an order to saw a load of hemlock lumber and beams on my sawmill.
Perfect use for the pile of sawlogs sitting on my landing.
It’s turning into a busy retirement hobby😎
