good morning, 80 going to 94 today much warmer

A bit of good news yesterday when D9 visited. Earlier in the day she took GD to Johns Hopkins for check up on her autoimmune illness and the blood platelets were within acceptable limits and only two infusions per year going forward. D9 also wanted to come out and help splitting an stacking firewood

The backup alarms from neighbors property are back this morning. How much can you do to a 5 acre piece of land? Seems like a good size dozer would have this done in a short period of time.

Maybe a good day for a drive around the property on the RTV to check for trees down

Good morning! Low of 53°, going up to 76°. Still a good chance of a t-storm today at 60%, drops to 20% tomorrow. Then back to 50-60% for the weekend. Didn't get a drop yesterday.

Drew, hope you can get the issue sorted out. Electric gremlins are tough to pinpoint. Start with simple stuff. Hope you can get the service guy in a reasonable time.

Thomas, glad Boo held his ground... and blanket. Hope the new visitor got the message. Haven't heard you mention the foxes. Are they still frolicking around the yard?

Bill, a power nap sounds like a good plan. Good that you are getting some rain. You made me chuckle about the worklight...
About 3 years ago, I mounted a worklight on the dipper stick of the backhoe, ran the wire, and even put a disconnect plug on it.
Then, wired a switch / relay on the tractor side.... just never ran the wire from the switch to the back of the tractor.... maybe on some rainy day.....

Not sure of the agenda for today other than a trip into town. I might try to tackle the Jeep coolant flush, at least get started on it.
Anyone have any reason why I couldn't leave the cleaner / flush stuff in the system for a couple days? I would start it up a few times to circulate it.

Even though there is a chance of showers, drip irrigation is in progress, on an abbreviated schedule.

Everyone have a great day!

Some of the older (better) flushes were a bit rough on the systems so they couldn't be left in. There was one that recommended pulling the thermostat and driving it a while to do a good job.

80F and "Fair" @ 11:30, heading up to around 91F for the day's high. DP 69F, HU 68%, "feels like" temp = 83F.

Yesterday's high hit 96.8F at the LWS.

Got the right lift cylinder pulled, disassembled, and cleaned up ... things were going swimmingly ...

Started to replace the first seal ... the internal seal in the gland nut ... and it immediately started to crack and tear in multiple spots.

WTF ?

So I called local Kubota dealer to see if they had another of those seal kits in stock and they did, told them to set it aside and I'd be over.

That was a little after 16:00 ... and they close @ 17:00 ...

I-277 was closed for repaving so I had to double back and take I-77 ... which ended up being a parking lot before I even got to the Central Interchange.

It was clear I wasn't going to make it buy closing time, so I threw in the towel and headed back for the barn.

The seal is probably some kind of polymer and doesn't look anything like the one that came out of it.

Old one is green, new one is light colored ... yellowish beige.

Old one appears to have been a solid ring, like a thick washer with a square profile ... new one appears more similar profile wise to an oil seal with a distinct wiper lip.

Kubota parts website shows a choice of 4 different lift cylinders for the LA402-1 loader, with 2 different seal kits. Each kit fits two different cylinders. One of the 2 kits is NLA ... but there are still some NOS out in the system at various dealers.

Using the numbers on the cylinder, I still can't quite figure which one mine is ... the numbers appear to be one digit off from a cylinder that is discontinued (mine is 7J040-63011, discontinued item is 7J040-63010):

I already used one of these kits to rebuild the left cylinder and I don't recall having any issues like this. And that cylinder is not leaking as far as I can tell ... although I probably should take a closer look at it again.

This seal kit was sitting out on the countertop in it's package next to the vise. If it's not a defective seal, the only thing I can think of is that perhaps the seal material was somehow effected by strong UV light when I was welding either in the vise or on the welding table.

At any rate, it will be another trip today over to the dealer with the new kit and broken seal + the old green internal wiper seal to try and sort this out.

Hope everyone is having a decent Wednesday ... (y)

Now 92°, but a little breeze blowing feels good on the porch.
Got garden weeds cleaned up. Then sharpened mower blades. Keeping new socket in bright red package it came in. Haven’t found old one yet.
Did clear off welding table to take grinder outside to sharpen. They didn’t look too bad, just dull on tips.
Ended up mowing most of the yard just to try them. Been a dry week, only needed mowed in places, but did all around house and the field, did not do back hill or along creek.
Got trailer put away from last trip south to mow.
Time for a cold water, shower, and relax rest of day.
Had osprey helicopter fly over a couple times.

71°F and .26 inches rain.

TS Gilma approaching but weakening. Likely more of a rain event. That said, I’d like to get a start on regular mowing before she gets here. So that’s my hope for the day, get the Laupahoehoe end of property done today.

Paul, the old folks home is really shaping up.

Mike, pics of the Milkhouse soon?

Drew, hope your sidetrack adventures are over.

Prayers for all
Be safe
Have a great day

Some of the older (better) flushes were a bit rough on the systems so they couldn't be left in. There was one that recommended pulling the thermostat and driving it a while to do a good job.
This one says to drive it a bit to get it up to temp, then drain. Being the Jeep has been neglected big time, and the heater core is probably 85% clogged, I was hoping to let it stay in there and eat the corrosion.

A surprise..... the wifey said "let me cut your hair"... yep, all in for that! I was really getting scraggly looking.

I'm thinking it's because I finally shaved after 3 1/2 weeks. That scruff was gone, so the head scruff was more noticeable.....

Now I have 1/8" uniform fuzz. Feels much better.

Now, off into town....
