Who rides motorcycles?

I have ridden hard off-road for 20 years, raced hare scramble and enduro. The only time I have broken a spoke was with defective P.O.S. Chinese aftermarket DNA brand wheels. The spokes entered the rim at a different angle than the dimple in the rim. Spokes broke at the top of the nipple.

Solved that problem. Threw the wheel in the metal scrap pile. Hub didn’t use bearings or spacers any other used.

i have bend the rim a few time with a spoke wheel but never broken spokes, both time i just hammer it back into place i am not sure what would’ve happen on a solid aluminium rim, crack rime or blow out perhaps 🤷‍♂️

Yes, cast aluminum is brittle compared to an extruded aluminum rim.

I have found a 2x4 makes a good beating tool to get the worst out of a bent dirtbike rim.

H-D and the likes use steel rims. They can be quite heavy. But there the spoked wheel is used for aesthetic reasons so shiny chrome is of utmost importance.

Can Am Sypders are a blast to ride with reverse and the semi-automatic shifting. The best two wheeled bike I've ever owned was the Honda F6B Goldwing.

I grew up trail riding and got into hill climbing pretty heavy. Had all kinds of bikes in the '70's: Honda, Suzuki, Bultaco, and others. The most memorable being a bored, stroked, ported Honda XL125. She really climbed!

Now I ride the woods most days with my Honda CRF230F. Quiet and super torquey make an easy ride for this geezer.

Cast aluminum wheels are not lighter than spoked wheels.

In my experience with both, cast are noticeably lighter than spoke wheels. Spoke wheels are stronger against impacts but also get out of true over time. If spoke wheels were lighter they would be on moto gp bikes.

that's the first newer goldwing I see, they look a lot better they used to..
I customized it with the addition of the trunk bag and windscreen. Thanks it was a great machine.
