It's an Exmark Lazer Z 37hp diesel. No fancy cab with AC. Looks more or less like any other zero-turn I've seen.

I'm hoping someone who knows more about these things can answer a question for me. Is there ever an actual business case to be made for a mower that costs as much as my 75hp tractor? I just can't make sense of it.

Don't golf courses use reel type mowers for most or all of their work?

A regular rotary mower might find use around the clubhouse, I guess... but I'd not think they'd be wanting to make that a big line item in their capital equipment budget.

The most profitable lawn care people I know cut for the city and the school system. I’m sure this machine would be a money maker for them.

Some of those wide area mowers get pretty pricey and have decks around 100 inches wide.

Here's the ad. Apparently 17 people have bought one in the last 7 days, which I don't actually believe.

Im guessing this is a high profit item. The question: "Does its quality justify it?"

Picture doesn't match the ad copy. Ad title lists 96" mower, but picture is of 60" or similar mower. As stated previously, the 96" Lazer Z is a triple-deck behemoth.

The Exmark site show a starting price of $27,099. That must have a heap of add-ons and accessories. Perhaps it washes itself and changes its own oil.

Thier own site lists these cons from reviews.
Difficult Maintenance
Limited Availability & Performance of Accessories
Poor Fuel Efficiency
Undesirable Styling / Appearance
Changing the deck height is a manual effort

I saw today in all the farming publications about more John Deere layoffs, and tractor sales of all brands declining.

I honestly wish they would all go bankrupt. They all been ripping us off the last 4 hours, so I'd be more than happy to see them all suffer.

But I guess that won't happen. Seems like the world is still full of people more than happy to sign their life away with financing.

I saw a zero-turn and iirc it had a 104" cut. It would cut a football field in 10 minutes. 30K iirc.

But...why?

One would have to have some accounts that would justify dedicating that much money to a unit that does one thing.

There it is, saw a video a while back of someone mowing a football field with it.
Just a demo / promo reel, I assume? I wouldn't think a little 1.3 acre football field is the best application for a beast like that. It's more likely aimed at mowing 20 - 30 acres per day, turf farm stuff, or golf course perimeters.

The majority of John Deere layoffs have been in their Construction (SkidSteers/Backhoes) and Heavy Industrial factories. Their Ag units for tractors so far is still doing good...most especially the small tractors under 40hp.

Something like that, been awhile since I watched the video. The premise of the video was how fast it could mow a football field.

All the news I've been reading is concerning AG.
Another 300 this week in Illinois.
