OK, to be honest, I didn't read both pages...
Frigidaire is parent company of LG. 3 years ago, I bought 2 refrigerators, gas stove, microwave, dishwasher, washer and dryer. All LG. After 3 years, the fridge stopped working. Since there are no authorized dealers remotely close to us, LG offered a full refund. Great, right? it was June 25th when my nightmare started. Long story short, LG is doing everything they can to NOT refund my money. Wife did search online, you can do your own, and LG has class action lawsuit against them for using linear compressors, that fail at a high rate.
UGH!!!
Stay away from LG refrigerators...
Bad news on the LG Linear compressor…

Every single person I know that bought has had trouble which is sad…

Friends had a total kitchen remodel 10 years ago and asked if I wanted the GE profile that came with the house…

I said too big for any of the rentals… why not just move to the garage as you have a wedding coming up… said good idea.

2 LG bit the dust in 8 years… but the old 1991 GE Profile has saved the bacon or ice cream twice now…

I think it is a first world problem… no where in my travels do people junk perfectly good appliances but here…

I’m not complaining as I have picked up very good washer/dryer, TV, ranges and refrigerators just for picking up.

Same stories for the Kenmore pair washer/dryer someone replaced with Neptune and same for a very nice Toshiba TV replaced by 2 LG tv’s…

Absolutely
When the CPU board goes out in just about anything, that's it - and those often last ~5 years
though
Had a repairman claim the board was bad in our wall oven, and I forget what I did, but it's still going now after 23 years (Kitchenaid).
I did have to pull the oven apart and weld the top of the oven chamber back together because the top part of it was dropping it. Not a good design, steam from the oven had rusted little tabs that were holding it together.

The oven timer on ours was dead when we bought the house. After taking the oven out of the wall, it was clear that the clock itself had gummed up. $450 for a NOS clock twenty years ago. Um, no. I use timed bake exactly never. I've been around too many appliances (ovens and dryers mostly) that caught fire.

@HawkinsHollow We've had Bosch dishwashers in the extended family for decades. Nobody has had to replace one yet, though I did have to replace the tiny pump on mine, after five or so years. The replacement has been going for a decade plus. Easy fix. Very quiet, and gets things spotless.

I have no experience with the modern versions of gas stoves, though you might consider an induction stove rather than gas if anyone has asthma or lung issues. If your fridge is that new and still going strong, what is the push to replace it?

GE appliances are owned and made by Haier; check your particular models to see where it is being made. Globally, Haier has a reputation on par with many of the Japanese brands, I.e. good.

The top five by volume in the US are Whirlpool, Electrolux, GE, LG, and Samsung.

All the best,

Peter

I have GE gas stove around 5 years old that there is very little flame adjustment for the burners and it stinks when you run the oven.
Have 14 year Amana ( Whirlpool) fridge that needs replacing.
Like you struggling with what brand to replace it with since no one stocks anything anymore.

I will suggest what ever you have that's been working for 10 yrs, you may want to keep it. I guarantee, that unit will last longer than what you'll get today.
This government is mandating higher and higher efficiencies and the consumer is paying the price with inferior appliances, that doesn't last.
I have an old cold spot freezer from the 70's that I have never touched an is still in use. You can't buy one today o last that long !
How long will this old cold spot last ? Who knows, perhaps I'll hand it down to my grand children :ROFLMAO:

We have all Bosch appliances in our home, NC and Tenn. Sometimes, you can get package deals and rebates on top.

I’ve had good luck with all of them… but todays appliances are not your mothers appliances.
Thats funny, but my GE fridge in my workshop was made in the 1960's and has never needed a repair.
It was my mom and dads.

Had another Whirlpool side by side lose its compressor this last Sunday. Makes two Whirlpool fridges in the last 10 years.
Still have our original GE top freezer in the basement from 98.
Our new GE fridge is suppose to be delivered on Aug 5. Apparently white is not in style these days. We went with a top freezer model.
From what Ive seen its a crapshoot in picking appliances except for the known problem units like the LG fridge and Samsung washers.

I recommend that you visit a local appliance store and not a box store. This is where contractors shop. They generally have better appliances for a comparable price to the box stores. Our local store will price match any other seller’s online prices.

Our current GE, bought in 2016, is the only fridge I've ever had with an icemaker that lasted more than about 6 months. So far, this one still going strong and has been a reliable unit in all other ways too.

Prior fridges over the last 40 years were Kenmore and Whirlpool were OK except for the ice makers.

It seems like your basic refrigerators last longer. The big side by sides are what I always hear about failures. I don't use much ice, a couple of trays is all that I need. If I needed more I'd consider a countertop version rather than in the fridge.

We have an LG refrigerator and washer/dryer for ~3 yrs of essentially trouble-free service. I wasn't too keen on that brand but the pandemic was just ending, they were available and we needed them. Take a look at Consumer's Reports they have unbiased reviews and ratings of most appliances, unfortunately, they sometimes don't have reviews of the very latest models.

14 years ago, we replaced all the kitchen appliances with Whirlpool. Gas range/oven no problems. Dishwasher I had to replace a valve. The refrigerator is still going strong. All of them are as basic as you can get. I do have an ice maker, but we never use ice so that don't get used.

The Sears Kenmore washer and dryer were replaced with Whirlpool a couple of years ago. The dryer needs a belt, I can hear it slap the sides as it rotates. These too are as basic as it gets. I only use one setting, don't even know what all the other settings are for.

I have a buddy at work that has a big side by side refrigerator that cost him a ton. It has water, ice, lights, digital readouts, I think it talks to you. It might even groom the dog for all I know, but it's broken. I asked him if he knew what my refrigerator could do that his doesn't? I told him it keeps my food cold nothing more.

I am going to show my age and say that I don't need wifi to tell me what is in my fridge. I open the door and look.

I was shopping for a new washer and have decided on what I want. Reading the reviews on the small size it listed one of the cons as "Not WiFi enabled"
That's a big selling point to me... I won't run it if I'm not home anyways.

I think all of the new appliances are much more expensive than what they used to sell and much less reliable. Wife was determined to buy a side by side refrigerator. I made sure we kept our early 2000's single door refrigerator for when the side by side goes out.

Consider yourself lucky with the GE fridge & icemaker. Our new GE fridge icemaker (2 years old now) has had 6 serice calls. The last call they finally replaced the entire icemaker. Ah! Great news eh? Nope - the new one hangs up with ice in the dispenser door about once/week.
I'm not agreable to simply living with that problem, but will until I know of a better refrigerator out there.

We have had an Electrolux French door refrigerator for over 10 years and it’s still working fine. They aren’t cheap though. No wifi.

What a sad state we have gotten ourselves into. When someone spends $1000-$2000 on an appliance and it craps out within 5 years.

I guess I am just going to roll the dice and go with Frigidaire. Or that is what I am leaning towards right now. Need to research Bosch a little bit more. I know it is more expensive but if it saves me some heartache 5 years from now it will be worth it.

Thanks for all of the responses. The combined knowledge of this forum is such a great asset.

Wow! Yeah, Bosch is almost twice as expensive as the mid-range Frigidaire stuff we are looking at. It would take our total appliance cost from about $6000 to $10000. Ouch!

I don’t know anything about Bosch refrigerators, but the Bosch dishwasher we have is the best we’ve ever owned.

@HawkinsHollow I don't know what your electricity costs are, but efficiency varies a lot in appliances as well. It may be worth keeping an eye on. The Bosch units are both quiet and very water and energy efficient. So, they may cost more now, but may save you later. Like @jyoutz, the Bosch is the best I have ever owned or been around.

For us, water is key, with the side effect that it is ok to run the dishwasher whenever because it is so quiet.

Similarity, our LG washer is pretty quiet, but has a very high speed spin cycle (like the Speed Queens) that reduces drying times and drying energy. It is also water, and therefore energy frugal in washing as well.

All the best,

Peter
