I need to replace the transmission oil in my Gravely garden tractor.
Over the years spec changed from straight 30 to 10W40 and now 10W30 motor oil.
am wondering if better to use a semi synthetic which might be less likely to leak at old seals.
Rotella 5 or 6?
old straight cut gears, don't get hot, probably some slop in them.

Good Morning.
70° this morning, a high of 85 with no rain in the forecast.
Yesterday was insufferably hot and humid, afternoon and evening showers deposited just over a half inch of rain.

Made great progress on the old folks home yesterday, a good portion of the wiring is done, lots of studs drilled and wires pulled. I don’t regret delegating that work to an electrical contractor, although it’s something foreign to me.

I got a good start on the radiant heat boiler plumbing, cutting and fitting copper, none of it is soldered yet, I want to get it all fit up first. There is a lot going on in a little space.

I got all of the ductwork bits and pieces delivered, and up into the attic along with the air handler, so that will be next on the list after the plumbing is wrapped up.

It was most unpleasant up there with the heat and humidity.

I’m waiting for some plumbing supplies to come tomorrow, so today might be a good day to mow the pastures, as I never got to it yesterday.

Wont the multi-grade oil be more likely to leak past those old seals?10W30/40 is thinner than 30 weight when cold.

it already leaks, someday have to crack it open and replace the gasket.
but yes, I bet multigrade does leak more
this is trans oil, not engine, I would think something a little thicker would be helpful.
Clutches are dry and external, this is just gear lube. Might also be pto clutch lube...

Haven’t been there for awhile, but seems to be ok.

Dad’s yard got mowed today.

Got my eufy camera today, did not open it. Set it inside and forgot about it.

I'd be tempted to use a gear lube, my preference is 75W-140 for yours something like

AMSOIL SEVERE GEAR® 80W-90 100% Synthetic Gear Lube​

It is interesting to compare the viscosities of the various fluids
with SAE 30 motor oil is right at the edge between 80W and 85W gear lube.

. My guess is Either freon problem or compressor, but i'm no expert. G, Y1, and O lights lit on the board..

Green would be fan, Y1 is first stage compressor, O is the reversing valve, so the lights would be indicating normal inputs.

Good (Friday) morning. Overnight Low of -0.2C and it's presently 9.7C, overcast & fairly calm. Rain is predicted this arvo.

Nothing really planned for today except to purchase a couple of concert tickets for PostModern Jukebox who are touring in Aus in February. I'll need to book flights too.

Randy, thanks for that heads up, I’m waiting for some urine tests to come back today ! Hopefully no infection but I doubt it ! Do you remember what test they used to discover that cancer?

G'day Scotty. As I wrote and in my case, it was initially discovered via the ultrasound. The next day I was then scheduled for an MRI (the one where they inject you with some sort of 'yucky tasting' iodine(?) solution). A couple of days later I visited the Surgeon who confirmed that it was cancer, just by the size of it, and a week later I had the nephrectomy.

I know that this time-line sounds 'fast', but I was in the Navy at the time. Because of that, I don't even know what the whole thing cost... it was just 'done'.

Easy-peasy... they just, key-hole, popped the 'bad boy' out (along with the associated lymph nodes). No "chemo" or radiation follow-up required.

compressor soon stopped running, and when it ran seemed loud.
Watched some YouTube videos on how to determine if low on Freon. My guages are probably 40 yrs old, definitely before 410A.
Need to find someone who knows what they are doing. If low, where did it leak. Or is it a bad compressor.
