72” vs 84” Tiller

i'd side with the 84". Long is a good name, but dated. bet Land Pride or Rhino has some good ones too. only precaution i can suggest with the 84": i keep an eye out for trees & fence posts with the extension beyond rear tires. very easy to snag if you're not careful.

& yes, ballast in or on rear tires is a must for that width blade on your MX, it's going to struggle at times. & ensure the tiller you're looking at has height gauge wheels or settings, etc. regards

Buying cheap on a tiller and it won't last. Tillers take a lot of abuse. If I was buying one, it would be a Land Pride because wear parts are readily available and they come already painted Kubota Orange 2. I'm not, don't need one and I believe you can offset the 84's and possibly the smaller ones as well to accomodate for your wheel track.

I'd say try to go with a brand with a local dealer if you can. Other than that, I agree with the don't cheap out thinking. What part of the country are you in? You might post a "wanted" in the marketplace section here and pick up something lightly used and save some $$.

Tillers are a lot slower than other tillage tools. Great for fine seed beds, but it’ll take me 90 minutes to till an acre with a 72”, 5” deep in clay loam.

I have an IronCraft and it’s been great. I’ve tilled probably 10 acres with it, and it was all virgin ground when I began.

I have not had to replace outboard bearings in any of my three Howard tillers and one of them has over 2,000 acres on it.

In fact, I haven't had to replace ANY bearings in any of them!
