You Know You Are Old When

Apparently I'm the only one who still wants a paper receipt. I checked out of TSC today and she said " do you want me to send you the reciept?" Looking over I saw she was waiting for my email address so I said no. As she closed the sale I said "Can I have my receipt?"
OH, you mean now you want it? I'll have to get a manager."
Of course I wanted it. I had just bought a shirt with a CC but... never mind. The 6 people in line behind me probably don't feel like waiting either.
No, you're not the only one. Haven't had an issue with TSC, but Walmart and HD make you select "paper receipt" (at least at the self checkout).

She probably just hit no receipt instead of paper only.

She did. Once I said I didn't want it emailed she closed the sale... then acted like I had changed my mind. I'm not inclined to give my email or other personal information out at any point of sale.

Here's another one; I often stream radio stations when in my truck. One station wants you to give them permission to sell your personal information. If you say no, you are booted off the site.

Create a fake gmail account to give them. I've done that to give good reviews to my commercial stores when corporate required us to get a minimum amount of reviews. I did this cuz I hate to bug customers to do them.

When I waited tables, a man was called "sir" and a woman was called "miss" (miss infers younger, and as a male waiter, you WORKED for your tips every way possible LOL).
Around here and further south, women are addressed as "ma'am" and you better not forget it-- or your manners. And generally, ladies are ladies.
If I am asked a question by an unknown woman, I would answer "no, ma'am" or "yes, ma'am". A man, especially older is called "sir". That just the way it is, you better do it and what you think doesn't matter.

If you are about to go into some building and a woman is near or approaching the same spot, you better open the door and let her go first. If she's with a husband or guy, you open the door and let them both go first and maybe nod your head. They go first even if they tell you to go first. And again, what you think doesn't matter. Women always go first.

Calling a woman "Miss" in front of her first name is a polite thing for a respected woman that manages a household or runs a business or maybe is just a wonderful or maybe just older woman. You have to be a little careful with this and if you're not local just say yes, ma'am and don't talk. Piece of cake and just my observations.

Before email, they use to ask for phone numbers..
I used to tell the girl asking,
“I think your cute too but I’m married and my wife would have a fit if u started calling me.”

When asked for email I just say, “No thank you”.. they get the hint..

When dealing with the general public, generally you have no clue what the woman's last name is. I would just use "Miss" instead of "Ma'am".

I live in NC, the real south LOL. Generally speaking, never seen a fight over not calling a woman "ma'am" even if that's the way it is ;)

End of the day, either you have some manners or you don't.

I have especially when checking in or calling patients in the waiting room...

We no longer say any pronoun or deference and go by first name only... I know... how forward and impertinent.

Address someone using the wrong pronoun and it is cause to be written up should complaint follow and yes complaints are made for this...

Had several patients pitch a fit and even go to the state hospital board because patients identified as non binary and we did not provide that option citing medical necessity to perform pre surgery pregnancy test on all women of child bearing age which enraged this person...

Not worth losing your job over so first name it is or no name...

So that's why. I liked it better when I was addressed in the waiting room as Mr. last name.

There is nothing wrong with calling out the first name only. When I hear my first name, I stand up and smile as I walk toward her, but it just seams a little forward, especially after a lifetime of Mr. name.

And sometimes it can get confusing. Sometimes more than 1 person named John is in the waiting room.
