Hitch failure on a Diamond C FMAX 212

It has two 16,000 lb axles which = 32K. Add a significant amount of tongue weight to that number. That exact trailer is also available in a 40K GVW configuration. So, trailer empty weight = 11620. Add two 11K lb. machines. Throw in 1000 lbs of attachments for good measure. 34,620. A trailer whose frame can support a GVW of 40K should not be cracking with that weight. Even if the max GVW on that frame was only 30K, not 40K, it should still not be cracking like that with a little extra weight on it.
:ROFLMAO: :ROFLMAO: How many posts are on TBN where the claim is you can’t run this trailer or that trailer because it’s not DOT legal? Now, you all are defending an overload. :ROFLMAO::ROFLMAO:

No one is defending an overloaded trailer. What people are pointing out is a trailer shouldn’t split in half at a weld because it is overloaded. Especially when the exact same trailer can be outfitted with larger axels and increase the load capacity. Huge difference.

Since we are on the subject.

This guy is having a bad day. He made the mistake of posting on a trailer forum I frequent and brought out all the weight police
:D
:D

He might over load and might not, maybe he hauls off highway like I do. Whatever the case is, it should not have happened. That frame flange looks awful thin for 12k axles.

Lets concentrate all the weight of the trailer on a 4 inch wide strip of the frame and then wonder why it broke.

Well, where should the failure occur? Don’t stress failures always occur at the weakest point whether that point be tires, axles, fasteners or welds? How does exceeding the manufacturers rating not increase the likelihood of failure?

Really tho.
Looks like a poor design to me, having no doubler for the walking beam mount. Not only that but i looks as if they welded across the flange of the frame, hard to tell for sure tho.
Walking beam looks a bit funky too but it could be an optical illusion.

Not sure what posts you're referring to. I have no control over what others post. Anyway, you must have missed part of what I posted. That trailer frame is not overloaded. They sell that exact trailer frame with a rating of 40,000 GVW.

The trailer in question is manufacturer speced at 30K GVWR, not 32, not 40. If you want to argue about something, how about the gooseneck to frame design.

Just to compare, my 16k Lamar dump uses a heavier I-beam/flange and add a 3/4" plate at the spring hangers.
