I've been watching various people braze carbide to the end of a piece of steel to make a lathe bit and never see them reharden or temper the carbide. Does carbide not lose it's hardness at brazing temperature?

No, it doesn't need anything after brazing. However, I stopped needing to braze my own carbide years ago. Pre made lathe cutters are available very cheap that can be ground into the shape you need.
