We just began to get hot yesterday. Temps in the 80’s most of this week. Not much rain, but next week supposed to get a lot.
Still only about 2’ tall here.

I got so much to do before I can even think about cutting or baling.
Need to mount Pottinger on front of Massey
Change oil in Massey

Krone baler needs to be hooked up to MT655E and test run.

I’m running out of time ! 😣

AND I still haven’t got an answer on the extra 60 acres that’s been rumored to be coming my way. Fingers crossed. That’ll put me at over 450-500

I could have bailed my place twice already... I thought it would be a good idea to plant rye grass on the bare dirt around the new house. Every week I'm cutting a foot of growth. I'm ready for it to burn up!

I just mowed up at the Church and here at the house. The Church was "almost" tall enough to make hay, but not quite. Seems the lack of rain has kept it from growing very much this year. Last year I was mowing before Easter!

Hey guys, a little aside to this thread, for you brush-hogging types.

I have a pretty nice Deere-painted Woods M4 rotary cutter (aka brush hog), cat.1/2, quick-hitch compatible in 48" size. Back when I bought it, I had a heck of a time finding a 48", as nearly all for sale around here are 60" or 72", and my tractor at the time only had PTO 20 hp (Deere 855). But it's truly the perfect size for the nearly-ubiquitous Deere 2-series or Kubota B01's that everyone seems to run around here, those machines being a little small for 60" or larger cutters.

I've had the thing up for sale here and on C'list for more than a year, with no bites. Wrong forum? Wrong price? I thought I had priced it in the middle of the range I saw folks asking for these, and it's in nice shape with all new seals, skirts, and paint. What am I doing wrong?

I have hay on the ground. Hoping to rake and bale tomorrow. I wasn't going to cut as the weather forecast was for heavy rain and thunder storms today (when I checked on Sunday) but Monday the chance had decreased so I quickly (!) changed my baler belts, greased everything, went over the mower, tedder and rake then serviced the two tractors I use. Cut Tuesday and the weather has been hot, windy and only a light dew. Now it will just behave for two more days .....

I was hoping for very little dew this morning so I could rake early but .... got up 5.30 to thick fog! Sun burnt it off surprisingly quickly and I was raking by 10am, started baling straight after around 1.30pm, finished around 7. No breakdowns, fires ..... all good. That's half the farm done, hopefully next week will be good enough to get the rest done.

Be lucky if we start in a month. It's growing good. And as always I'm not ready

Not yet we are just now getting warm. Plenty of moisture but we have been cool. Starting to grow pretty good now.

I just got the baler hooked to the Challenger yesterday. I have to go into the computer and reset the electronic remotes. Previous owner had them set up in an unusual

I was working on a house just South of Tyler Texas last week, and I probably saw a dozen different farms out baling round bales.

From what little I know, it had to be mostly weeds. The temps have just started to get into the 80's during the day, and Bermuda grass is barely starting to show up. In my area, Bermuda grass is the best hay grass that all the horse people want. Pure clean Bermuda sells for top dollar, everything that is mixed is goat or cow hay.

I don't hay my place, but I'm getting close to putting the batwing back on so I can cut down all my weeds to allow the grass to grow. With all the rain we've been getting, that might not happen for another couple of weeks.

I feel your anxiety here. I don't have a bailer right now, it's at the dealer getting upgraded. Seems as though Kubota 'forgot' to put a scraper bar in front of the main drive roll and now they have to add one. Problem is, I have a huge wad of forage from last year tightly wound around the drive roll and that is causing the belts to stretch and at some point will break the lacings but in reality, without removing the belts there is no way to access and remove the entwined forage wrapped around the drive roll. Not my issue, their issue. It's a dang good bailer except for that.

No problem at this juncture as we had the wettest April in 30 years and it's been raining about every other day here so while my alfalfa is /could be cut raked and bailed, I'm not doing anything but looking at it right now. All pre sold anyway, just like last year. Besides, I have 3 pretty substantial TIG welding jobs in the shop I need to attend to.

Both field and alfalfa hay are about 4" to 6" high around here.

Its ok because I need the extra time. ;)

I still have about 5 acres to cut, all the stuff I baled a few weeks ago is sold but this lot still standing is, yeah, tall and soggy. Never a long enough break in the wet and cold.
A couple of farms close to me with hundreds of acres to cut have a lot of it knocked down by the wind and rain. Looks like Mr stay Puft has been doing snow angels in it!

I can hear the forage choppers running when I was outside today. Grass hay just over a foot tall so still in the boot stage. It'll be some hot feed, high protein and highly digestible, the milk cows will do good on this stuff.

Someone in Owosso is advertising freshly baled hay.

...and dry forage users are screwed....

I just picked up a full 350 gallon IBC tote of expired DEF that was never even opened. Didn't realize how heavy it was until I went to unload it from the rollback. It's almost 3500 pounds. Was all my M9 could do to lift it.

Nice thing about DEF is, it's deionized water and urea, usually around 28-32% urea and I spray it on my alfalfa as a foliar inoculant. I tend to cut it 50-50 with water and add a bit of 24D B when I spray it as well. 350 gallons of it will last all season. Just don't like t he smell of it. Smells like cat pee. Alfalfa likes it however. Rained like crazy here last night again, supposed to rain this afternoon again. I'm excited, not.
