Which 2024 diesel 10k gvwr truck?

Ram 2500, F250 derated to 10k, gmc 2500 derated to 10k?

Bumper towing max non cdl weight. Will be towing often. Just traveled 8 hrs towing in my older ram and move machines multiple times a week.
What is the reason for wanting the 10k limit is it just to stay under 26k total for legal purposes?

Lots of people on the Ram forums want the Ram to match the higher weight limit of GM and Ford.

If the 2025 Ram gets the ZF eight speed for the diesel’s I would think it will be a great combo.

More than likely it's due to insurance or taxes; some places get real particular.

A good friend of mine has 20 service trucks. In the mid 2000's he had all Ram trucks, but he is now replacing them all with Ford trucks. These are all one ton dually service trucks, which he feels are better then what Ram has out right now. If I was buying today, I would buy Ford because I trust his knowledge on trucks more then anybody else.

Last year my F150 wouldn't start. Turned out to be the fuel pump. My mechanic sent a tow truck to bring it to his shop. The tow truck was a brand new Ford F350. It had amazing power, really unbelievable how much power it had. I asked why the company used Ford, and he said they had Ram before, but switched to Ford because of all the power Ford has.

I need a bigger truck. I don't want to spend the money on a new truck, and I'm scared of the smog systems on them, and all the electronics. I'm leaning towards finding a 2006 to early 2007 Dodge with the 5.9 and rebuilding it. For me, it would be a farm truck used to haul hay and tractors a few times a year.

As of now, the ZF8 is limited to 770 ftlbs. The current standard output Cummins is 850 and the H.O. is over 1,000, so until the ZF-8 gets hardened, the Aisin 6 speed will remain. And although it’s not the smoothest transmission (I have 2 ZF 8s in a BMW and a Jeep Rubicon and they are super smooth always in the right gear) it‘s tough as nails.

Your friend has to realize that Ram has improved leaps & bounds over what Ram was in the mid 2000’s.
A 2019 & newer Ram is a much improved truck over a 2000-2019 Ram.

So don’t put too much faith in what he is doing. ;)

I'd slow down a little to see if everyone's inventory grows as someone mentioned about ram. All of them are seeing this and it might save you big.
Remember when the msrp was the starting point for negotiations and you were walking out the door if you didn't get $4-5k of of their asking price ON A $30-38K truck!
If you have the time, I'd think about this approach. 👍

The last two trucks I bought fast because I needed them. I almost did the same thing yesterday again. Decided to slow down and find or order exactly what I need.

The reason for 10k is tow 14 and 16k trailers for my business. The police look at you differently when towing a directional drill and water tank. I know people on the same job that have been ticketed with DRW trucks and 14k trailers when leaving the job site.

I think he knows what he is doing. He is a crane dealer for Link Belt on the West Coast, he owned all the cranes that where used on the TV Show Myth Busters, and he buys new service trucks every year. Which means he repairs and maintains those repair trucks all year long. He was a huge fan of Ram, and he still likes them, but in his opinion, he likes Ford better.

Pretty sure it will be a variant of this transmission.
