New rail being delivered between the Soo Yard and the International Bridge in Sault ste Marie, MI. 3-18-24 Note the size of this rail. This is what main lines are built with and the rail sections are 1/4 a mile long.

I've always been amazed at how "wobbly" the new rail sections are - conforming to the uneven ground, when just laying on the ground like than.

In northeast Indiana along US30 near Columbia City, there is a Steel Dynamics steel mill that I think deals mostly with scrap steel. Next door is a rail factory. It's the yellow line in the left of the screenshot attached. It's 0.33 miles long. There are many of those cars lined up next to it. (click to enlarge).
