I didn’t read the entire thread, so I’m sorry if I’m repeating some info.

Even if this work is through the local conservation commission or state environmental agency, you need a dredge permit through the US Army Corps of Engineers. That is definitely a navigable waterway.
OK, I will add that to my meeting with the United States Coast Guard as well as the state and local authorities

You cannot forget the Bog Turtle (1) !
Apparently I have to have the area “swept” for Bog Turtles.
Local Boy Scout Troop (now has girls, too) will do the sweep and relocate Bog Turtles for a charitable contribution.

So down here Gopher Turtles are the main one on land, and they are endangered/protected. Except, apparently, card carrying legit Seminole Indians can remove/kill/eat/whatever, and I've heard of atleast one guy offering that service :)

Which is why I would never have my sons in "Boy" Scouts today. What an embarrassment.

Our boy scout troop always had some girls doing stuff with the guys even before they officially allowed girls. Now they call it Scouts, not Boy Scouts. The problem was the old "girl scouts" are just artsy crafty stuff, and there are girls that want to camp out and do outdoors stuff like the boys. But even before they allowed girls in Scouts, there was already Venture troops that were coed, so not a big change. They still keep the troops separate, boy troop and girl troop. My biggest complaint is Scouts became risk adverse, couldn't do things they used to do because of risk. Boy scouts would not let me canoe, because I couldn't pass the swim test. As a kid in 4H I canoed all the time, just had to wear a life vest. I can swim enough to dive in the deep end and get out of a swim area, but since I couldn't swim far enough to pass a swim test the boy scouts would not let me in over my knees. The biggest downfall of Scouting was other things they started allowing, and many organizations stopped sponsoring troops. Self inflicted downfall, but they won't man up and admit it.

Good luck with the creek cleanup.

Funny story:
I came home from work one day and there was a white car parked near my gate and man in a pith helmet with a clipboard on his hands and knees in the ditch across the street. I got out and asked what he was doing. He explained that Verizon was going to trench a cable up the road and he was looking to see if any endangered species would be affected. Said he was looking for checker spotted butterflies. When asked if found any he replied no. I turned and pointed to my truck, Well there's about 50 of them plastered on the front of that truck over there and 10 more I tried to wash off the windshield. You better check your car too...

Haydude, this has turned even funnier. When you joked and talked about checking with the coast Guard I almost posted “check with the Boy Scouts too”. I decided it wasn’t that funny though but reality is funnier yet. Maybe a Boy Scout merit badge is in order and they’ll move that log jam for you for free.
