@milkman636 did you/your son go through one of the people that prep game film, edit everything, and send it out to the recruiting coordinators for various colleges? Reason I ask, I didn't even know that was a thing, till a guy in Scouts, son was looking at playing college soccer. He had ton of video and all, but it turns out, what coaches where really looking for, wasn't a highlight real of scores, so much as various small things, like reaction time in a reverse, and other stuff. Also, he mentioned, the consultant told them, he needs to tweet/X the recruiter a very short, professional thanks, after any discussion/meeting. Small things like that,
I didn't know anything about recruiting either until last summer. But, there's a nationwide recruiting database that coaches use to search for players to fill roster spots. I bought the base service offering for both my sons for about $500 each. They build a profile, post their own highlight film, and manage their own communication. There are higher levels of service that go all the way up to fully edited professional highlight films and individual recruiting coaches to help navigate marketing and communications with colleges and universities. I think top tier services was like $3500 a kid. But, even the base minimum package seems to have helped him get traction. Previous to enrolling him in the service there was just one D3 coach recruiting him after seeing him play in a scrimmage. Now we've had dozens of contacts from interested schools.

Today's visit was a good one. There is a wide variety of coaching and programs once you see them in person. I'm actually starting to think bigger may not be better in the long run.

Tough crowd...

Was it a public hall as opposed to the church hall?

I've been to a few banquets with open bars and no security presence...

Maybe area specific?

Nope. Catholic school gymnasium. Good neighborhood. Just part of the rules for the hall rental.

My son did that as well and it got him recruiting visits.
Daughter was recruited by freshman year, so no need for it

I know I've gotten frustrated with the whole loan/scholarship process, registration, everything with my son. Me and wife have really tried to be hands off, as it's his loans, and he will have to repay them. He is hoping (assuming) he will get a Bright Futures Scholarship (state funded, from Lotto earnings), but he won't actually know for sure until August. It will be based on him passing several 'Ace' tests at the end of the year. But UNF wants him to start school in the summer of 2024; before he even knows, for 100%, the scholarship will come through. All the loans are really set up for Fall/Spring; and haven't got a 100% answer that he will have the first loan payment before summer.

Anyways; I've told him, probably 20 times, and maybe the last time, he kinda listened; Fine, start it the summer, if the loan comes in, it should be enough for housing, tuition, and the meal plan, we can cover lab fees, books,; However, if that scholarship doesn't come in for Fall; you will Have to transfer to a community College. (or of coarse get married, and wife and mes income no longer count against you, and you'll be eligible for more loans/Pell grants, ect; that's 66% joking, but...)

During our visit this weekend the university informed us that a government mistake was making early April the likely best-case scenario for aid determination. And, of course the schools are looking for roster commitments by then too. Any delay in our decision making could cost him opportunity for a spot.

Being that it’s our first run through this stuff I’m not sure yet how this will affect the different cost propositions we need to consider. Murphy’s law is also in full effect because the favorite coach and program so far is one that offers the least amount of football scholarship. My son liked that head coach because he was brutally honest and didn’t sugar coat anything. It’s a stark contrast to his high school coach that has a tendency to not always follow through on his words.

Basically every school so far has given us information on other scholarships he may qualify for also. Yay for more stuff to read and fill out and more waiting!

The scariest thing I’ve learned in this process is that a bachelor’s degree at most schools will cost about $200,000 for tuition, fees, housing, and food if you don’t get any scholarships or grants. I could not imagine agreeing to pay that amount, especially in loans.

Just went through this with both kids. One is now done, other still in. One kids favorite school offered academic and athletic scholarships., but not both together. This is called “stacking”. The higher offer came from the academic side and you can’t lose it, even if sports didn't work out.
With the other kid, the athletic department just pays 40-50% of tuition.
My wife and I paid the rest, which for BOTH amounts to about $150K, so we felt pretty lucky

Both our kids went to Mizzou. In state all in cost of about $25000 each per year. Neither received athletic money but both got some academic money.

Both graduated in 5 years. Seems to be the norm these days.

In total, it cost us (they participated in the cost) roughly $150000.

They both enjoyed their experiences and made (hopefully) lifelong friends.

Both are gainfully employed in jobs they enjoy.
