Student Loan Debt?

I had a quote to re-roof my house from 2019. It was $19,900
I had the same roofer re-quote same roof in March 2023 it was $31,000.

4 years ~35% increase.

Don’t tell me prices haven’t gone way up.
I bought shingles in 2019 for $22+, today the same ones are $35+, so yes things have gone up.

I haven't told you they haven't gone way up. They have. As for total food purchases (again) I'm not seeing 100% increases over the past 3 years. Still a lot, but not as much as others.

So if prices have gone up “still a lot”, you cannot possibly be satisfied with that, unless the social programs that came with the “lot higher prices” was a good trade-off for you?
I would argue that the social programs did nothing for me-and the majority of other American citizens.

But we are spending billions on illegal immigration support, how does that not help those on a fixed budget :-(

I guess a ~60% increase is not enough to worry you? Amounts to about 15% per year. Many other things have similar increases over 4 years.

Not sure how many have seen 60% worth of raises during that time.

Probably not raises, but job hopping certainly boosted a lot of people I know into different tax brackets.

I think that while I'm not happy with the price increases over the past few years, I'm also being factual and not exaggerating the actual numbers for effect. Facts are facts. We've had this discussion a couple years ago.

Groceries have increased quite a bit on a lot of items. But groceries are also a small part of my monthly expenses.

Anyone who is content with substantial price increases lacks an awareness of the preservation of their wealth.

OK, so maybe they aren’t 100%, and I personally never said they were. So let’s say they are 25% which is 1/4 of the 100%.

At 25% inflation over 3-4 years, you should be outraged and demand change. You can just say “well at least they aren’t 100%!!

That’s like saying “the doctors found cancer in my abdominal organs, but at least they didn’t find it in my brain!”

And inflation is additive +3% one month, +3% the next month is 3% + 3% or the total of the last month.
Another marketing trick is to say inflation was down 1% to 2% for the month, but it is really adding 2% to the total instead of 3%. So not down, but up!

Since a 4.49 box of cereal is now 7.49 well, that is 30%+

I'm not content. I just don't like people spewing falsehoods.

What kind of cereal? A family sized box of Cheerios is $5.99 here.

A dollar off of that if you clip the coupon.

Shop at Wally World
it's my area, we drive into NJ to get a little better price, sometimes.
Have to weigh driving time/cost vs. savings.

Trying to save up for my sons college is stressful, but his career requires a degree.
Increased costs for the last few years have slowed down our savings considerably.

Thanks Jyoutz for trying to help.

We have only two choices in our rural area: Krogers and Walmart. Krogers has a far nicer butcher counter, deli, and bakery, but for everything else prices at Walmart are at least 20% cheaper.

My beef is fuel, which for a sustained period WAS UP ~100% from 2019.
THAT is completely unacceptable and the primary reason food is up.

Bro, don’t even try to refute me. I buy more fuel in a year than you buy in 20 years. Its a huge expense for us and we track it like a hawk, so save it, K?
