Student Loan Debt?

I went to Catholic school for 8 yrs, was an altar boy etc and never heard anything like that. And our church had a priest who was convicted of molesting kids! It can be something the congregation has no clue about. We also had a lay teacher/BB coach who hooked up with an 8th grade girl, my sister's best friend, and her mother was a lay teacher there. Insane.
While we never heard of anything like that in our church/school, my wife's church/school had one that was caught. And when our kids went to that same school, another priest came in and immediately stopped all girls from being alter servers. Said only the boys could do it. Used the reasoning that their mission is to drive men to the priesthood, and the girls always took over and ran things and the boys lost interest.( From my personal experiences, it was more like the boys found the priests creepy and wanted nothing to do with it. ) That priest was only at our school a few years, got moved again, and came up on 'the list'. As far as I know, all that happened to him was he was removed from duties and is retired somewhere, never prosecuted.

Nope --- teachers aren't renaming kids. State govts are making it a crime for a parent/physician to take care of their child's needs.
Just how does the government make parents taking care of kids needs a crime?

Well, I don’t know what to tell you other than what I posted is factual, maybe you weren’t in the right place or maybe you didn’t have a priest that was over as overt as we did.

Also the priest I referred to is listed by the diocese as a offender

Probably referring to places like CA where a minor needs to ALLOW their parents in the room with a doctor and give them permission to have access to their medical records. This is linked to the desire of the state to be able to transition children without silly parents getting in the way of hormone blockers and double mastectomies. My new neighbors moved here, in part, because of this push in CA. If you don’t go along with your child’s delusion, and affirm it, the state can step in. If they identify as a fence post, they can probably get their limbs amputated 😂

Another family member is a child psychologist, she has had her own practice for decades. She will no longer take patients struggling with gender issues, because the state mandates she affirm their feelings. Not treat them. Not give them actual counseling, but affirm their feelings, whatever those may be today. Male, female, neither, fence post, cat… affirmation is the new “care”.

Yeah, I just did. The two G's were never at our schools. Thanks.
Actually, he did serve in South Bend and Mishawaka right before he did “serve” here at the parish I went to

I had a couple cruel, sick & twisted public school teachers.
No inappropriate touching, but mental cruelty to the point where you actually smiled & laughed when you heard they were finally dead.
And you got to be one F’d up SOB for me to do that cause I try to practice forgiveness as much as I can, even to those who don’t deserve it.

Exactly -- so the govt should stay out of a parent/child/physician relationship.
It should be cnsidered abuse under the penal code if any of those parties tries to convince a child to change genders.

I'm not disagreeing with some of this; But back to student loans... I dont think they are always a bad thing. If you can borrow $25k, to increase your earning potential $50k/year, over the next 50 years, that is a smart move. I also think the garranteed student loans lead to a viscous circle, of increasing costs, and more loans, and more cost... Also, in some/many cases, a bit of creativity can avoid a lot of the loans.

In my wife's case, she was 34 y/o at the time, we had 3 kids, and she was making 1.5x min wage, but capped at 26 hours/week; and my check was just getting us by. Well, after prerequisites, when she entered nursing school, there wasn't a realistic way for her to continue working, or for me to cover day care, so student loans were used to cover daycare, while a Pell grant covered tuition. Yes, she still has an annoying student loan payment, and she Really does need to attack it, But, her earning potential is 4x what it was if she hadn't done loans.

Also, one thing missed, it's hard to talk sense to a kid, while the schools/world are saying go to college. My 17 y/o son 'should' get 100% tuition paid. He is convinced he wants to go to a 4 year college, and live in a dorm, even though the tuition is only like 25-33% of the cost. All this, when he could easily get a better job locally, take night/online classes at community College, taking on zero debt, for atleast the first 2 years, and probably get a 4 year degree debt free. Now, the truth is, I'm not co-signing anything, and it will be his cross to bear, and his mistake (IMO) to make.

How much did your 17-18-19 year old self listen to adults?

I went to a community College, using step dads VA money (VA pays dependents of disabled vets), and sold plasma, worked, and didn't use any loans. I was offered a 100% scholarship 2 years into an associates but turned it down, I was Done with school. About 8 years ago, I did go back, trying to get an engineering degree, but it was a pain in the butt, and decided I didn't want it enough to go through all that trouble. School (community college) was easy for me when I was 18/19; but twi things changed. #1; working full time at a real job, real priorities, kids, wife, vehicles to work on, yard to mow. ect; And #2; the professors now don't teach. They take a view of "it's not my job to teach you, it's my job to test you, and if you don't know how to do it, watch a YouTube video"

I don’t think anybody’s arguing whether or not school loans are a bad thing. At least I’m not.

I think the point most people are trying to make is paying off loans by the government is wrong.!

POTUS IS JUST TRYING TO BUY VOTES AND THAT’S A PURE AND SIMPLE OUTLANDISH PLOY

I’ve read the entire thread and I went to college at 30 years old, paid for my college as I went with a job that I was working full-time +10 or 15 hours of every week and now my granddaughter is getting ready to go to college and searching for every scholarship she can get and saving her own money plus whatever money her loved ones gives her along the way and she has no plans to get a college loan for her college education.

If there is emotion, as you say, I would say it’s because most people do not want to pay for somebody else’s college, when they have obligations of their own to pay for!
