You can lay the blame wherever you wish.

However a bit of history...

Tier 4 Emission Standards was adopted by the EPA in 2004 under George Bush (Republican), to be phased in from 2008 to 2015.
The USA started phasing in ULSD in 2006 and 2007 under George Bush (Republican), which was a requirement for cleaner burning diesel vehicles.

Much of the development and implementation of the DPF, DEF and CATs came during the ***** years, but likely had been well under development during the Bush years.

Donald ***** was in office in 2017 to 2020, and the Republicans controlled both the House and the Senate in 2017 to 2018.

Cummins could have complained to Congress and Donald ***** that the emission standards developed a decade earlier were just to dang strict. Although doing so might have been an admission of their fooling around with the emissions system. And yet they didn't.

These aren't ***** policies, but rather policies that had been put in place long before he became President.

As mentioned earlier, the SMOG controls were started in the early 1970's, and incrementally got more and more strict due to problems with SMOG. If nothing had been done, with the current us population about 60% higher than in 1970, we could be in a world of hurt.

I remember when I was younger that older pickups routinely got less than 10 MPG. I'm glad that my newer RAM pickup gets better gas mileage than my little 4 cylinder Ford Ranger from a few years ago, while also being a large enough pickup to handle a decent sized trailer.

It is hard to deny that burning billions of gallons of fossil fuels is impacting our planet, whether it is from SMOG to climate change.

Politicians standing up on a stump can't simply wish away fundamental changes that are happening to our planet that will impact all of us and our progeny.
Aren’t you the guy who is trying to balance your tractor on two tires for some unknown reason in another thread?!?!?!

Trick question: Which administration started the EPA?
I had to think about that some. Unleaded and catalytic converters came out around 1976. And, yep, that's all tied to the EPA under Tricky Dick.

Yep, unintended things happen. And, I'd much rather balance the tractor on 2 front wheels than pop up a single rear wheel from an overloaded bucket and have the tractor tilt to the side and risk a rollover.

Ummmmm maybe you should consider your actions more prior to doing said actions?

It was started in 1968 and again in 1971 when GM and others had to drop compression ratios from just under 11:1 to under 9:1
Then in 1973 Pontiac really stepped in it with the SD 455 Firebirds. EPA made them re do the EGR and drop the original cam for a less polluting one among other changes Including cheating on the EGR.
Pontiac actually painted the whole engine a different color once it was fully compliant.

ps. Really interested in How the new gas version of the inline six Gasoline spec Cummins runs.

It is based on the diesel block but is overhead cam head. Rumors are that it will be a Low revver like the current diesel 6.7.
The block and rotating assembly is well proven.

I pencilled it out and having the 380v made the electric continuous flow Siemens water heater viable plus works great for the buzz saw too.
I used to have my brothers welder at the workshop at my parents farm. It could be operated at either 230 or 400v, however it just shifted the null to another phase, making it a 2 phase welder. My brother payd 700 euro, and i payd 350 euro repair cost in 3 years. When i got a loaner, a 3 phase 250A machine, i was impressed with the much more stabile arc. The shop equipment seller said the machine that could run either 230 or 400v didnt run 3 phase on 400v, it ran 2 phase. Or essentially a three cylinder with one cylinder misfiring. The sinus straightener, that straightens the bumps of the AC sinuses to a DC constant smooth welding arc, had a lot of work to do in such machines. The much more stabile arc was a consequence of being powered by three phases of overlapping sinuses with small bumps to level out.

I payd another 350 to fix my brothers machine and brought it back to his little shed in town, and ordered a 3 phase 350A welder for myself. Thats 15 years ago and its still running fine without breakdown

It’s all underground now but when I built it was run house to house overhead…

Overhead electricity and telephone was before my time... my 86 year old uncle brought us concrete posts as fenceposts, that were the last remains of above ground grids, when i was a kid 35 years ago

Are they the only ones to cheat or is the EPA waiting in the correctly time to expose the other brands?

At this point I am thinking it's a tool the gov/politicians have to discredit diesels and manipulate the market

Punishing Vw pushed them into the EV heavy.

This will force the truck industry to do the same even faster
Kind of like conditioning the mind for the future. Volkswagon first, then we get Cummins years later. Who's next??
Conditions the mind that compliance standards at some point in time will be the most important part of living pertaining to pollution control.
The latest findings are that the air we exhale adds to the "Global Warning", Where does it end?
On the other hand, Cummins and VW both purposely circumvented regulatory requirements that could have been met by both companies.
Working in Industrial Polution Controls for part of my career, I am all for reduced polution from any source if it can be done to the best of our abilities with current technology with a low cost.
At what cost do we go to for cleaned air?
Should we only do as good as developing economies and polute at thier same level? Should we ban purchases from these developing economies that use no or little pollution controls?

I think this “blame game” that’s being insinuated here is misleading.

If we did, China would go to war with us, or expose who they’ve paid off

What does this post mean? Can you clarify your statements here?

All Nixon did was consolidate the environmental functions of various existing agencies into one agency. His idea was to stop government waste. Congress then expanded the function of the EPA and gave it regulatory powers later...and continued to add to the power and scope of the agency.
