Diesels are not going away. They are too fuel efficient.
Eric
To be powered by a Cat C3.6 diesel genset at 140hp. Accelerating it can deliver far greater power from the battery, but at cruise speed the generator only runs at peak efficiency, with far easier enission aftertreatment because of constant engine rpm, when needed. The batteries arent intended to be recharged for hours plugged into the wall, but only as a temporary storage to level out supply and demand.

They envision service truck application, with built in welding generator capability. Or tow truck, with built in generator capability to recharge EVs that didnt make it to the charging point.

I do find it funny looking at the Soviet/Russian tanks followed around by a plume of black smoke. Look for the black smoke, and you'll find the tank!!!
The Russian tank engine is 90 years old. In the T-90 they use the same basic engine as in the T-34 that fought WW2. It was designed as an aluminium 4 valve per cylinder diesel V12 originally intended for aircraft, however it turned out to become too heavy to fly.The Soviet refineries could not produce decent quality gasoline from the local oil wells, so they preferred Diesel engines.

Russians also got Diesel Shermans through the Lend-lease program, with two Detroit 6-71 engines. In the last days of the war, the Soviets ordered a bunch of "rebuild tools" so after the war they could build the 4-71 and 6-71 as YaaZ 204 and 206 built untill 1967

Their successors were the Yaroslav 236, 238 and 240 family of long stroke, four stroke diesel V6, V8 and V12 built from 1964 onwards. The 238 V8 was first used in the Kirovets K-700 articulated tractor and from 1967 onwards also in Kraz 255B trucks

AFAIK only the T-62 had an opposed piston 5 cylinder engine and the T -80 had a gas turbine, mimicking the US Abrams.

The US Military used to run multifuel engines. Apparently designed to run on diesel, but they could run on a variety of fuels and grades of fuels, sometimes benefiting from mixing fuels. Apparently the military has now gone to mostly commercial diesel engines.

Nonetheless, I can imagine arguments against the logistics of also supporting DEF/Urea. Perhaps also not requiring ULSD.

Ideally they would design their systems with the DPF/CAT for use in countries where ULSD and DEF is available, and a bypass for use with lower grades of diesel, or a lack of DEF when only the lower grades are available.

It was aircraft powse carts. They run non stop.

And we powered em on jet fuel since that's what the fuel truck hauled for the aircraft.

Give the helicopter a drink, top of the power cart.

I have 4 diesel engines on the ranch. 2 work the ground. 2 haul stuff around.
Merry Christmas!

I am really surprised by many of the comments here. Cummins cheated. But folks here defend them when other manufacturers manage to follow the rules. Basically Cummins stole money from the other manufacturers who spent the funds to make systems that comply with the law. Cummins did not. So they cheated. They got caught and folks are defending them. What about the other folks who managed to follow the law? I don't get it.
Eric
But is it cheating when it was an arbitrary target to start with? Isn't the Government cheating when they move the yard stick past a reasonable point in order to remove a product from the market?

When we built five beach landing wheel loaders for the military back in 2012, jet fuel compatibility was one of the demands. The JD Tier 3A common rail engines could handle it, when an additive was mixed in to lube the rail pressure pump.

What are they proposing to replace the Cummins backup gensets? Aren't they still the gold standard for reliable backup genset power?
The EPA fine was only for the engines in the RAM 2500 and 3500 trucks. That would not affect the generator engines. I think generators come under different emissions rules. Certainly the homeowner ones do.

I’m glad I’m an old fart and probably won’t see the results of the current administrations war on diesel, well war on anything carbon!

I do feel sorry for my kids, and even more so my grandkids
