Maybe a new truck Ford or Dodge?

50,000 miles on my DEF truck. Other than a DEF fuel gauge that quit, no problems.
I think the initial DEF systems were guinea pig systems. They seem to have improved.
But it is more likely they will break because of the additional parts & electronics.

The world of new trucks we live in.
You want “new”, you get all the new equipment-the good and the bad.

If 20,000 GCWR is your sweet spot, I’d be looking at a RAM 3500 standard output 6.7 cab & chassis.
I've only have 41K on our 2019 with DEF and "0" engine or emission issues, only issues so far was AC started blowing warm early on and it was an O-ring replaced under warranty (They said it was assembled wrong) and then Death Wobble at 30K, also addressed under warranty.
Most comfortable, quiet, and easy driving truck I've ever owned or been in. Tows all trailers with ease.

I think both Ford and Ram have 5 or 7 yr/100K mile emission warranties so DEF problems would be covered for a while anyway.

The new Ford powerstrokes are extremely high cost for maintenance. The fenders have to be removed to do many services. One of my BILs has one and told me it’s usually close to $1K when he leaves the shop. I have 5 BILs in the ranching business. Slowly they have converted from Ford to Dodge because of the powerstroke maintenance costs. And they spend their days hauling cattle and feed trailers. The Cummins motors are bullet proof and the maintenance is simpler. Yes Dodge did some front end issues and transmission issues; back in the 1990s and early 2000s. Not an issue with the new Rams.
I call B.S.!
What maintenance requires fenders to be removed?
By the way, they don't remove fenders, they raise the cab for any significant repairs! It is actually very quick and allows so much more access.

IMO, if you want to buy a new diesel truck, spend your money on extending the warranty as far out as possible, then just enjoy it.
Life’s too short to drive around in an old rusty ford with a 225HP motor. LOL

The fenders are raised along with the cab. Tell me that your powerstroke maintenance is cheap.

I totally agree! That's what we did and from Ford during the original purchase, it wasn't that expensive (Less than some options!).

Cheap no, Just no more expensive than any other diesel and the cab isn't raised for maintenance only for major repairs. I think Ram may be done the same way.

They all require 14-16 quarts of oil and pricey Fuel filters. Oil filters aren't really that bad (For Ford anyway, I assume Cummins is similar)

I walked out of the RAM dealer with a RAM cummins 5500 pretty loaded up and even with extended warranty, I was less than an F-550 comparably equipped with less warranty.

But with RAM, I also got a higher GCWR, a longer warranty, and the RAM Pack.
Ford did not offer me any of those options in 2020.

Ram cabs aren’t removable and unnecessary for the I6 motors. 12 quarts of oil in my 5.9.

My 2012 F-550 had to have cab removed for engine work.
It’s just crazy.

Ford makes a real good truck, but they cost more to purchase and more to maintain. You can’t beat the Cummins/Aisin combo and when I was buying in 2020, the RAM warranty was better.

Another benefit sea2summit will get is if he’s still farming, he will qualify for the “AGPAK” benefit, which gives you some unbelievable discounts on seed, truck bodies, Michelin & Firestone ag/truck tires and a LOT more. .

I used Agpack to buy my EBY flatbed and got a $1,000 discount!
