Good morning!!!!

Another trip to the lot today to mow. Beautiful day. It only took 2 hrs to mow, grass not as tall as usual. I even mowed into the weeds along the trees in several places, now that I could see where the larger sticks are. Spent about 20 minutes with the chainsaw cutting some of the junk trees along the edge also.
Only saw 2 deer when pulling in.

Lou said : I've heard of a lot of people that had sore arms or not feeling good after the shingles vaccine shots, I guess I'm one of the more fortunate ones. No soreness or issues with either shot, got my second one yesterday also.

Lou, I'm glad to hear you had very little difficulty. I'm worried about missing time from work to get the shingles vax...

There was a Pro Palestinian protest today at work. Maybe 80-100. A handful looked like they were "tag alongs". I wanted to tell them off, but kept my mouth shut. I just turned some pictures into the local news, will see if they run them. Probably not. I posted them anonymously if that is possible.

Some vise photos. These may make their way to a public surplus auction.

Got the electric dryer parts in today. Rear Felt ring, new pulley gear that goes on the motor, new belt, and a front door seal. $68ish

Got the rear felt ring glued tonight. Getting off the old glue was a challenge until I broke out the acetone and steel wool. Will install the front door seal first thing tomorrow, then the rest and assemble. The reason the belts kept wearing out prematurely, is because the drive pulley gear has small serpentine serrations, which were worn completely out. ought a "tight 90 deg elbow" to better send the exhaust towards the side wall of the house. Have always just had a bendable aluminum dryer duct, that would get all beat up and squished. Hopefully it will breath better now.

Killroy, two egg beater drills.
The larger one is a two speed but does not turn. Maybe just need to be soaked. ??
The smaller is a Stanley handyman drill and comes with a screw on top. It is in fine working order.
$10 each however the shipping for both is $65 and shipping just for the Stanley is $40. If you know a cheaper way to ship let me know. The guy at the postal place just measured and did not weigh the drills. If you need more pics let me know.

On the larger two-speed one, there should be a set-screw that locks the shoulder stock (for lack of a better term) into the main frame - if you can back that out, the shoulder stock should unscrew (perhaps with some break-free) and it should all fit into a USPS Flat-Rate box. If not, I guess I will go for the more expensive shipping option because I do want them. Let me know if that comes apart or not and we will finalize the transaction.

Hmmm. I can see how that is supposed to be 2 speed, but don't see how the bigger gear would line up. Maybe I'm looking at it wrong.
There is a release that allows the frame to slide in relation to the gear and that enables the different gear ratios.

I like walnut trees. Have a bunch down along my creek, and some at the VA lot. Not a pretty tree, but I like building stuff with the wood.
Someone I know down here throws the walnuts into his smoker…

67°F and spotty fog this morning, got up to 77° here today.

Spent the last two days in Minneapolis to attend the SMTA Conference and Expo. Flew out Tuesday morning and arrived around noon-ish. When we went to the hotel to check in, since we were early, only one room was available. My coworker checked in, I dropped my bag in his room, and we headed to the convention center. Big place, full of really expensive stuff. We went left and slowly made our way through the entire show from one end to the other. We stopped at a few displays along the way to talk with some companies about their equipment, and were stopped by a few others who recognized our company name from our badges. Talked with a few reps we already knew, and a bunch who we didn't. Some truly amazing technology was on display at that show. The robotics stuff was off-the-charts cool. We did find some things that would be truly helpful in improving our processes, and some of them are even budget friendly. It was a productive trip.

We left there and went back to the hotel for a bit, then headed to dinner at a place called Manny's Steakhouse, which came highly recommended by several people. We both ordered a giant 24oz ribeye and a baked potato. That was probably the best ribeye I've ever eaten. It was also the biggest steak either of us had ever eaten. Turned out, it was also the most expensive steak we've ever eaten. I'm actually going to feel a little guilty turning that in on my expense report. So good, though ...

Got up early Wednesday morning and took a walk through downtown Minneapolis before breakfast. It's a really nice city. Certainly nicer than St. Louis. My colleague and I both noted the night before that it didn't seem to stink like many cities do. Maybe it was the crisp northern air. I had a plan before I left, though. I'd noted when planning the trip that our hotel was a mere eight blocks from the legendary First Avenue music venue. So, I walked there, took some pics, and walked back to the hotel. I'd just walked into my room when my coworker sent me a text message saying he was ready to head down for breakfast. Perfect timing.

We decided to go to the airport early and see if we could catch an earlier flight back to STL. When we got there, we were informed that our 1:10pm flight WAS the earliest flight. So, we made our way through security, found a couple of fairly comfy highback chairs, and did some people watching for the next three hours.

Just after I left the house Tuesday morning, my Wife started sending me text messages and videos. The neighbor's bull (Ferdinand) was wandering around by our barn, having fun attacking a pile of lumber left from the old chicken coop. He had finally pushed his way under the fence. She drove over and woke them, and the husband came over to get him. Apparently, the bull doesn't like him much, and started to charge at him. He started to turn and run, and my Wife grabbed him and said "DON'T run!" She then stepped in front of him and yelled a short loud HUP! at the bulll, who stopped and looked at her in amazement, put his head down and slowly walked to her. She put her hand on his head and pushed down, and he lowered his head. She nodded to the guy, who walked over and put a rope around its neck, then lead it down our driveway and back over to their place. The neighbor wife came over to get their truck, and talked for awhile with my Wife. When told we already have a quote to replace the old fence (because we knew this would eventually happen), she said they'd pay half, and agreed that they need to put up an electric fence as well. My Wife also spoke later with the other guy who lives there with them, who turns out to be the husband's brother, the one who owns all the dogs. He asked her about some basic foundations training for them.

What started out as me thinking "Great, I'm on my way to Minnesota, and my Wife has to deal by herself with the terrible neighbors and their bull," turned into her getting to know them, and them marveling at all five-foot-one-and-three-quarters-inches of her stepping in front of their charging bull and stopping it. And, she's getting some business out of it, too.

My life is, at the very least, entertaining.

Good evening, gents.
