I finished putting my wood away today. Been split and air drying since Memorial Day but has seen more rain and humidity than sun this year. Today was very nice though.

Left side for next winter, right for 24/25.

I am still working on 2024 wood. Last fall I was having back issues so didn’t put any in. I burned my last stick in June, just about the time I stopped needing a fire.

That’s one advantage of being ahead.

The first year when I couldn't do our wood I wasn't a year ahead like now. My stove is a combination wood/coal jobber. I had never burned coal but when I was in grade school we had a coal furnace and I used to "help" my dad. So I thought, no problem, we'll just do coal this year. I guess I didn't pay attention to what dad was doing or ask why he was doing it because it was a disaster. We either froze or roasted all winter. I just couldn't get the timing and weather anticipation right. Ever since then I have been a year ahead on our wood.

I am glad that I was ahead last year, or I would have burned a lot of electricity.
Plus the thermostat would have been much lower than my wood stove runs. Most of my wood is log ends from harvest jobs. What I am working up now was cut in the fall of 2021, but needs to be split. By fall I will start on 2025.

I finally broke down and bought one of these, so I don't have to push the wheelbarrow full of firewood from the woodshed up to the house all winter. It is narrow enough to tow through the bushes and gate.

I have one, you'll love it. very handy and very tough. Ohio Steel has great customer service too. I needed a replacement bolt, they sent a whole bag of nuts, bolts, etc.

I have one too!! Just be careful throwing splits in when it's really cold.
The plastic tub gets brittle and can crack with a heavy hit. The dump feature is nice too!
