Not until 2028 and then only gas generators. Propane (and I’m guessing NG) and diesel are exempt. AND it only prohibits sale in CA, not use. Buy it out of state and you're good to go.
I like propane (clean) but it is lower energy density, and portable NG is mostly not practical..... so I can see doing a basic task in Cali:

2023: Contractor shows up to do a small task, and runs a Honda suitcase gasoline generator, that next-door neighbour can't hear running.

2029: Same contractor, same task, 20kw diesel that can be heard blocks away......

Careful what you wish for.....

It’s often incremental…

By this I mean ban the sale of something going forward and later issue a blanket ban on use that applies across the board.

Already the case with internal combustion with Brush and String Trimmers and Blowers.

Even with the total ban on use I see State road crews and Federal Post Offices ignoring the ban because State and Federal are exempt.

You don't Buy High, Sell Low then ?

Agreed.... if I was 20 years younger, with the right ticket, I'd be taking a serious look at that market..... I think it's only going to continue to grow.

grs, who stops by here once in a while, has/had been trying to retire for a long time, from serving that market.... I don't think he advertised much/any in decades....

I havnt advertised in over 6 years…i still get dozens of calls a month, even though i no longer install them. I only service them.

Honda isn't going to give up a market as big as CA. They will find a way to make it work, after a long and expensive game of Chicken, with the CA legislature.

One rule for the peasants....

.... No Rules for those who flit about the globe in Gulfstreams......

AM Business news while driving yesterday..... Cali in another legal fight, demanding zero-emission locomotives..... yet another reason to divert more Shipping from LA....

I'm sure you still have plenty of Service work, in "retirement"

Esp. with this type of product, it's hard to find somebody/anybody competent in certain geographies for Service at any price....

It's not like you are fixing a jet-ski or some other toy........ not much point to "emergency" equipment, if it won't start/run.....

Never heard about that. The letter i received from generac simply asked us to scope units that have the plenum (only older units have them) and if it was rusted, generac replaced it at no charge. I never charged homeowner squat.

Not really a maintenance run, but I did start it and run it for a few minutes.
About 1:00PM the power went out, just as I had started sweeping as my daughter and family are arriving from Florida this evening. Waited about an hour, the neighbor behind me called and said the utility company's help line said it would be at least 4:30PM until power would be restored. Drat!
Went down to the shop, hooked the BX up to the genset, pulled it up to the house and was just plugging it in to the house when the lady that lives to the south walked up with a couple of dozen eggs for me from her flock. She said the power had just came back on.:confused:
Unplug the cord, drive back to the shop, back it in, drop the genset, close up the shop and walk back to the house.
At least the genset got a few minutes of idle time.
