The GE 65 ton switcher had equalized trucks with clasp brakes and iron shoes, I think it only ran on 36 volt. This series of switchers would go up to 144 ton. Along with the heavier platform they would ballast the inside the side frames of the truck fabrication for the additional weight. The 144 ton model used the GA 64 gear box but I forgot the TM model. O well.

Three GE's and a Geep are in work in the house at CN's Galesburg Diesel Shop in Proctor, MN 9 June 2023. Rail roads are not dead and gone.

One good thing about CN's Dock 6 being busy is that it allows for some nice rail and sail combos. James R. Barker loading while day job R921 spots for dumping. Duluth, MN - June 19, 2023

Here's a video I found of the old line that ran from the west side of South Bend out to Notre Dame and St. Mary's College, last used for coal in the 90s. Shows the train leaving St. Mary's with 3 empty coal cars, picking up about a dozen more empties from Notre Dame, and heading back into town.

Of personal interest, around 10:15 in the video, the train is crossing a trestle over the river. My father saw a kid get his leg cut off by a train on that trestle when he was a kid. So back in the 20s. Got his foot stuck and the train didn't stop. Yikes!

They are converting that trestle to pedestrian use, and just Monday they started pouring concrete for the walkway.

Union Pacific Steam Club Update No. 29 - June 22, 2023
UP Steam

As part of the Home Run Express Steam Tour, Union Pacific offered a rare opportunity for rail fans to bid on a ride in the cab of the historic Big Boy 4014, the world's largest steam locomotive. All funds raised were to support Union Pacific Railroad Museum, a non-profit organization dedicated to sharing American history through the lens of the railroad and connecting generations who have been impacted by Union Pacific.

Unfortunately, the contest was manipulated by an individual and did not result in an award to the highest bidder. Our goal is supporting the Union Pacific Museum, and we are now selling two tickets for $9500 each with all proceeds benefitting the museum. Tickets go on sale at 5 p.m. central time, June 23 at www.uptraintix.com. We are excited to welcome these true rail fans onto the Big Boy for the experience of a lifetime.

Anyone who wants to learn more about the Union Pacific Railroad Museum or to donate can visit www.uprrmuseum.org.

Thanks Omaha!

Thanks everyone for stopping out to see the Big Boy in Omaha! If you haven't had a chance, stop by Home Plate at 12th and Cuming Saturday and Sunday, June 24-25 from noon until 6 p.m.

Home Run Express Return Route

A reminder that the Big Boy begins the return trip home back to Cheyenne on Thursday, June 29. Check out the schedule at UPsteam.com!
