Airlines stating one carry-on bag per person but once at the gate, they say flight is full and folks will have to check their bags. Happens every time. Every flight is FULL!!!!

A couple years ago I had kind of an argument with a flight attendant about my carry on bag. It had my CPAP machine in it. Not only do I need the thing to sleep it is very important for my heart health. These machines are expensive and cannot be replaced easily and quickly when traveling. Since I have had to deal with lost luggage more than once I always carry on my CPAP and any important meds.
Anyway, the flight attendant insisted that I check my carry on bag with the CPAP inside. I refused and explained just how important it was medically that I cannot lose this bag and so will not be checking it. We went back and forth a bit. I was always polite but also insistent. We compromised. She said if I look out the window I will be able to see that my bag is indeed being loaded, that the guy loading it in the hold will show it to me. Furthermore, when we landed my bag would be delivered to me at the gate. She was true to her word, I saw it being loaded and they did indeed bring my carry on bag to the gate. I was very impressed. They needed to put the bag in the hold but also recognized my need to not have my CPAP lost. I am sure that if I had not been polite, had not treated the flight attendant with the respect she deserved, things would not have turned out so well.
However, with all that said, the airlines continue to treat customers worse and worse. Their employees too. They must have to deal with legitimately upset customers on a regular basis. And their hands are often tied, they can only do so much. And some fliers forget this and treat the crew like crap, treatment they don't deserve.

Just avoid Chicago and Houston airports. I've been stranded overnight due to canceled flights out of both airports and since then avoid them like the plague.
Chicago I was able to get comped a hotel room and meals.
Houston, I was told that the cause was weather related so I was SOL for getting comped a room. Landed at 1pm and was told all flights were canceled for the day back to Little Rock. I ended up renting a little sh#t box and driving the 9 hours home.

I retired a couple years ago. My wife retired about a year before me. We have lived frugally so that we could retire in comfort. So this year we decided if we fly it's gonna be first class or business class. It is so worth it now. I was sick and tired of my knees bumping into the back of the seat in front of me. And I'm only 5"10". Well, I'm shorter now but that's because of my back, my legs are still virtually the same length. Anyway, the seats have gotten so close that when the person in front of me reclines their seat it hits my knees.
Well, not only did we make the decision we flew business class to the Dominican Republic to go to my wife's nephew's wedding. Hours and hours in the air. I am SO GLAD we flew business class.
I think you oughta fly somewhere because it is really cool to look down at the land. Fly first class. Get a window seat. Fly during the day. If you enjoy a beer or cocktail now and then they serve them free in first class. Unless you are pretty young you should book a flight soon.

I hate flying, but do prefer to be in a large metal tube over a helicopter of small aircraft.I've been in a helicopter and a Cessna. It's the big planes I've always avoided. If I crash I want to see the ground coming up before I die.
Used to be able to think that it's in the pilot's best interest that the flight goes well, but that doesn't always seem to be the case these days.
Having worked on small aircraft, I don't trust those at all since they allowed me to work on them. And helicopters don't glide worth a damn.
Basically, I don't like not being in control, which includes as a passenger in a car.
