Got the broken pine out of the pond. You can see the remaining stub on the bank.
It was about 14 inches where it broke off.
Had to cut it into 3rds to get it out and the first cut was from a paddle boat [unfortunately no pics since it was a comical set up.]

A friend and me, cut this load of firewood last month,

Resized-20230521-171810-S.jpg

Anyway, today was the day to split that load, so we got everything setup,

Resized-20230610-151406-S.jpg

Using the plank in the pict. makes it easy to roll the big rounds right onto the splitters beam from the wagon, and then we got to splitting!

Resized-20230610-151420-S.jpg

and filling my half cord boxes right off the end of the splitter means less handling of the splits, and not having to pick them up off the ground! And then moving the boxes out of the way with the tractor,

With the boxes filled,

I ended up with the four boxes, or two cords total of nice oak splits!

Was that 2 days total, or two days cutting and a day splitting? Either way there's a lot of heat in those 4 boxes... and I'm sure a little bit of sweat.

in a few hours one day, about a month ? ago.

Then today we split it, and with breaks and all the BSing we did, I think we worked about three hours. We just work at our own speed, no need to hurry, the wood isn't going anyplace. lol

I use a short ax as a wedge driver. I was getting tired of climbing up and getting it out from the tangle of stuff behind the seat so the other day I made a hanger bracket for it. Folded up a piece of 1/8" aluminum and made a loop from a piece of rod. Good putter project on a wet day.

I like that idea. Others I've seen leave the blade out in the open. Call me paranoid (I am) but unprotected blades make me cringe. I used to make my living with an axe and have learned a healthy respect for them.

I've been working up fuel wood these last couple of weeks, cutting off the pile of logs.

Yesterday, I rode the motor bike into the hardware store and bought the Stihl Hook-a-roon . A bit spendy, but it was available.

Damn! I can hardlt keep up! There must be batteries in there somewhere! ;-)

Sorry, no pics today, but the TW-2 splitter never waited on a cycle.
I did surround myself with cut rounds.

Now I need more pallets to stack the splits on.

You fellows with lots of room to move stuff around with your tractors makes me want to cry. I do well to lift a carry all up to work height and still get the tractor out of the way.
These forests are full of trees, and rocks, and hills. ;-)

Not paranoid in my mind. I keep it sharp so it will cut if need or want it to. I kept a flattened can on it behind the seat which often fell off. I was always afraid it would cut one of the snatch block straps, bungies, or jacket, back of seat, or other stuff back there. Now it's in a better spot and easier to get.

I've had my wood all split and air drying for a while. I'll put it in the shed in a couple months. Still old school here.

When I was using an axe you could shave with it. You can't even buy the German steel that I was using back then... and my last one disappeared out of the back of my truck along with my other good axe.

For a wedge beater can I ask why a curved handle vs a straight one?
