My last lab was just 14 when I let her go... I probably waited too long, but wanted to spend one last Christmas with her. When the time came to take her last ride I told her to get in the truck but she said **** you, we're going for a walk. We walked up and down the 1/4 mile in front of my property one last time, then she was ready to go.
Ruger turned 12 this month and is getting quite lame. I doubt he will make it two more years, and am not looking forward to that day.
It’s the hardest thing to have to say god bye to a beloved pet. They truly are members of our families.

Our 17 year old Blue Heeler went to a better place yesterday. She was one of the toughest dogs I've ever seen. She never backed down from a fight and would go right back after a cow after being kicked about 5 feet. Our German Shepherd, twice her size, knew never to tangle with her. She would always obey commands and was always right next to you when doing a job.
She almost drowned in the river last year when I was clearing brush and found her tangled up in a log on the river. She couldn't get out of the jam and went down just before I waded out to her. She came back up just when I got to her and I saved her, so she had another year of hanging around the farm.

So sorry for your loss.

IMO...
We should have a separate thread for " A Resting Place for Pets"...

(and no memes in this one)

IMO, I think this is the perfect place to post both the happy and sad posts of our beloved pets. I'm curious why this bothers you?
Pictures of dogs (actually animals of all kinds) cheer's me up...
...I like reading about faithful mutts, hounds and beasts that have passed on but it doesn't cheer me up...

My girl Dalilah, she is going on sixteen. She can't make the stairs to the bedroom anymore, so I carry her up at night and carry her down in the morning. I think she is capable, but I believe she took a tumble and is now afraid of them.

Ya, we know how old arthritic dogs descend. Here is our Gromit, we put down over one year ago. She started to show arthritis at about 8 and on meds the rest of her life. Seen here with random kids at a campground.

Don't you this thread is as much about the people that own and care for these dogs as well as the dogs themselves? Look how well these dogs are cared for, sleeping on the couch or carried up the stairs when they can no longer make it on their own. What noble and kind dog owners in this thread to care so much.

Here's a before and after of an Elvis cut on my springer. We have a two speed clipper and she gets buzz cuts year 'round. She loves a haircut and runs around the yard afterwards until she's exhausted. You can tell she feels wonderful.

We started slow on haircuts because the noise scares them. We keep it out of their eyes and have someone hold the dog. Also, put our dog up on a picnic table so no bending.

Neither my current dog nor my last one has ever cared for going down stairs... and I don't particularly it when they do, either. Ruger doesn't anymore. Last Sunday I snuck him into my desk on the second floor at work; it's the first time I've ridden the elevator which was put in about 14 years ago.
