Find the main power fuse for your tractor, and check it with a meter. They are there to do a job, which is protect all other powered circuits, and it appears to have done its job. If you cann,t find it, stop buy your dealer to pick up a new fuse, and have one of the mechanics show you exactly where it is located on your tractor.

Turn ignition switch hear one click from starter/solenoid and all power is killed.
This tells me that there is a poor connection somewhere. I would check the battery posts, ground cable where it attaches to the frame and the connections for the positive cable at the starter.

One easy way to diagnose if this is the problem is to have someone hold the key in the start position and then someone else grabs the battery cables and pulls on them. If this is the problem you should be able to find it quick.

What you are saying about a poor connection is true and can be frustrating. To the OP: A poor connection can pass voltage and current at a low level. But when more current tries to flow arcing can occur which then causes oxidation of the connection and this oxidation acts as an insulator so current stops flowing. The layer of oxidation is thin so it is easily broken through by moving wires and connections. Sometimes this can be especially frustrating because as the oxidized connection cools it may move just enough to break through the oxidation and then the dash lights come back on. Then you try cranking the engine and everything dies again. Follow the advice by pmsmechanic. Move the battery cables around. At both ends. And look for any arcing evidence at the ends of cables.

I would be curious to know what symptoms existed before the battery was wired backwards.

I agree. Remake all the main (large) battery cable connections. Including grounds and fuses. That means unfasten, clean, refasten. If that doesn't do it, suspect relays - including the starter solenoid itself - and also your main key switch. Anything that has connections, springs, or moving parts goes to the head of the suspect list. It is sounding like the back bias did something physical to a connection or moving relay part.

I doubt that expensive circuit damage was done. I don't know that for a fact, but most sensitive electronics are well protected against back bias by internal diodes. Even inexpensive radios and audio gear has adequate reverse battery polarity protection, so it makes sense that a tractor would as well.

I agree with Pmsmechanic check the battery cables. Especially the ground connection at the battery lug.

Was the click/lost power the initial reason for the battery replacement. I'm with the others check the cables especially the ground cable. My 4400 was doing similar characteristics and it actually was the post mount on the cable that went bad. By looking at it you couldn't tell it was bad but essentially most of the strands had broken inside the insulation and was only allowing low amperage voltage through. Disconnect/reconnect battery and everything would light up until crank and it would all go away. Also make sure your ground mounting location has good continuity as well.
