I lot still do and then forest service pays someone to drop what's left behind. One or 2 men cutting 40 acres of scrub.
I guess they do it different different places. I see alot of logging around here and we had our farm logged 20 years ago, not a chainsaw to be seen anywhere.

Either old Franklin equipment company machines or John deere.

Loggers in your area still use chainsaws??
Just had a parcel logged off. I asked the loggers what kind of chainsaws they had with them. They said if their Workers Comp Insurance carrier caught them with a chainsaw on site, they would drop their coverage. All their cutting and limbing is done with a feller / buncher.

When we had our property logged a couple years ago, they used chainsaws. 80 acres of hardwood. They had 1 skidder and an ATV. That old man taught me alot on cutting. He took the time to explain some of the more important details.

Pulp wood guys came in with a feller

Most logging is now done with feller buncher machines ON FLAT or gently sloped ground. There’s still chainsaw felling that occurs on steeper ground and for unusually large trees that the machines can’t handle. And even with the machine delimbers used today, there is still a need for some knot bumping and occasional bucking at landings.

I feel stupider now for having read this.

I can see it now, an underground railroad to the Stihl, Redmax, and Husky stores in Fargo only to be resold at off-the-beaten-trail speak easies in Minnesota....
Hey! You stole/let the cat out of the bag, my idea of a second income:

Small gas powered lawn/garden equipment exporter... :p

Neighbor had his land logged off last summer, and it was all done with chainsaws. Many of the loggers around here are one or two-man operations. Pulp mills are long gone here.

Small gyppo loggers can’t afford quarter million dollar machines.
