Gov't mandates gas can flame arrestors.

The no-spill spouts are garbage but the flame arrestors are cheap, effective, and harmless. The EPA definitely gets some things wrong but this isn't one of them.
They do seem to cause gas to splash back out if you fill them too fast.

They will if the end of the nozzle is too far in and pointing directly at the flat back of the arrestor. Only put the nozzle halfway in and cocked sideways a bit so the stream is running against the grate at an oblique. If you've figured out how to piss in a urinal without splash back, same thing.

So, another push to get us to use battery powered chainsaws, lawnmowers, weed eaters, generators, tillers, side-by-sides, etc., etc. The new can will probably require some kind of expensive training, licensing, and certification before you can purchase one.

The issue here is they don't stop adding more regulation and expense.....checked out California lately. The EPA has a history of being politically coerced and mired in bureaucracy. They have very little credibility left....so this is why the flags go up.

The best flame arrestor is using your brains when dealing with flammable materials.
Here's how I roll, if it's a safety device which is a hassle to use, it's not a safety device I choose to use. Instead, I rely on being careful, and not doing doing stupid/reckless sh*t. And if that alone won't prevent a mishap, I chalk it up to fate.

Just another feeble attempt to legislate stupidity into safety. All this does is make people's lives who have common sense on how to use things properly more difficult. Nowhere in that legislation did I see language indicating that they would address the root cause of these issues, which is that people SHOULD NEVER use gasoline to start or accelerate a bonfire, grille or other open flame! DUH!
