I'm going to say that driving into that was his big mistake. Anything following was a forgone conclusion.

I went looking for the one I described and never found it. But I did find and watch your first one. Your guy just didn't know any better.

The one I referenced, was a proud yahoo who went around a police barricade and past several people who knew the rural area and told him the ford was way too deep. I think they were there just for the entertainment. Result was the same.
