I have 2 tractor cab roofs made of HDPE plastics. Want to try to fix them. Found this cheap repair kit, but I dont know if it’ll work on this type of plastic?
Has anyone had luck fixing this type of plastic? I dont want to use tape, I want to repair with a “weld”

Interesting. I have not seen this one. I have a plastic welder that is like a glue gun with different types of sticks for different plastics.
The nose on my travel trailer has cracks and I tried using it with little luck. I ended up using the plastic rods for the gun and chuck them in my Dremel which actually does a good job welding with the friction of the spinning rod against the crack.

For $25 bucks, might be worth a shot?

I'd guess you are dealing with HDPE type. You mght want to look at the casting marks for clues to its type. There are some epoxy glues that "claim to work" on that type of plastic.

My very limited understanding is that one has to correctly identify the plastic to be welded and then select the correct welding process and/or plastic filler rods needed. Probably also need to clean the material with the appropriate cleaner before welding, too.

Although I have used a hot air plastic welder with some success before, I haven't seen the type of welder you posted.

I tried to read some about the product, but I don’t know if it fixes all plastics. My Kubota roof cracked years ago when a tree branch fell on it. That roof is HPDE.
Challenger roof was cracked from previous owner, don’t know what type of plastic it is.

From what I have read, it may be possible to determine what kind of plastic it is by shaving off a sliver and seeing how it burns.

HPDE appears to be one plastic that can be successfully heat fused, but I don't know enough to say if the welder you posted is your best option. It looks less expensive than buying a hot air welder.

I'll tell you one thing. I'm a certified redneck and a genuine registered Louisiana coon ***. Gorilla tape will fix it.

I do have a plastic welder that provides heat and is hooked to an air compressor so it welds with hot air. It works fine and dandy. But, gorilla tape, I have seen nothing like it. Ive seen it taped on something, laid out for four summers, peel it off and re use it. Regular duct tape may last three summer days if you're lucky. Usually have to get it off with Gasolina. I have not bought a roll of duct tape since I saw gorilla tape.

Looking at the "welder" for plastic it's an interesting concept melting the little steel "rivets" into the plastic to repair the crack.
But it's not fusing the two pieces back together. They show a kind of seam sealer in the pictures but it doesn't seem to be included.
