Good Morning!!!! 47F @ 6:00AM.
Windy at times with rain. High 54F. Winds SSE at 20 to 30 mph. Chance of rain 100%. Rainfall may reach one inch. Locally heavy rainfall possible.
The rain held off until about 8:00PM yesterday, but if was cool and overcast all day. So far we've picked up 0.3" of nice steady drizzle. Haven't seen any wind to speak of, and hope it stays that way.
SAE, metric, and Witworth wrench sets here, no Witworth taps or dies, but still have some nuts and bolts laying around, just in case. I really should get those boxes of Norton parts down and get rid of them. A bike on display is very unlikely to need any work or spare parts, and I could sure use the room. The "dial" caliper I use most often has a digital display, and will go back and forth between SAE and metric with the poke of a button. Very handy, but most of my work, and all of the drawings/CAD I do are SAE. I suppose the digital displays on the lathe and mill can show metric numbers, but I've never used them that way. I can change gears in the lathe to cut metric threads, and I think that's how it's set up now from the last threading job. Been a while since I had to do that, though.
Almost finished the installation of the new ignition unit on the red bike yesterday. Don't have a battery for it yet, so just used a battery charger to make sure that it would spark. Still need to check the timing at full advance, but I still have more seals to replace in the engine before I can do that.
Rolled the red bike off the lift and got the touring bike up there to do some maintenance, starting with an oil change. In cool weather like this, I let it drain overnight, so first thing this morning I'll put the new oil in. The filter only gets changed every other time, so I won't bother with it today. This is a 75,000 mile service, and that means new gear oil in the final drive and transmission and swing arm, too. I should pull the tranny and lube the splines, but I'll put that off until after the New Year as it takes more time than I want to spend right now.
From the sounds of the rain on the glass sliding door, those winds have picked up. Gonna be an inside day for sure.
Hope everyone enjoys their weekend!
