good morning all
raining this morning and much of the day today
taking muffins to Snowflake Festival early, too bad the kids are getting washed out. I guess they will all play in the gym.
Those choc muffins I made are distressingly crunchy. I use less vegetable oil than called for and also substitute some gluten free flour in the mix.
Sure came out dry...oops.
Mommy, why is this muffin so hard?
sorry kid.

then off to visit MIL in rehab, she apparently has her marbles back and is recovering back at her nursing home.
I'm taking her a blueberry muffin and some baked apples I had for desert last night.

tooth and jaw much better this morning. Still can't bite down on that side but feeling better with two antibiotics going. Something called Flagel ? in addition to
penicillin.

Ron, that is very interesting suet cake. Happy birds for sure.
“Honey, it isn’t a muffin - it is a really tall cookie!”

problem solved 🤣😂🤣

Good morning, rain in the forecast today, warmer getting into the 50's today

Getting interested in looking into upgrading our wood stove to one with more output and longer burn times. One operating on a thermostat would be nice and taking fresh air from the outside and being able to load oversize pieces without having to resplit. Starting to look at websites and may visit some showrooms to zero in on it. The stove is located in a fairly small living room 15 by 25 ft but it is open to the kitchen and has 10 ft ceiling with 4 windows and an outside door and also no insulation with double brick walls. Concern is to get one that will match requirements not too big or too small. I know a lot of you swear by the pellet stoves but want to stay with wood firing to take advantage of our own wood.

Picking up the flywheel that
came in and a couple errands in town

Have a great weekend

Is your PF the ”sharp rock taped to your heel” or “broken glass in your arch” or “rusty nail between/behind the balls of your foot”?
My Plantar Fasciitis felt like a cracked heel bone. X-ray and ultra sound and location of pain were used for diagnostics by the dr. She cooled the injection site with some kind of cold spray before the big needle injection. Just slightly uncomfortable, just one uncontrollable whimper.

One of the things that can be very important is whether it is a mechanical thermostatic operation or electrical. power outages do happen, after all.

Our stove is straight manual, and, once you figure out the idiotsyncracies (which you need to do with ANY stove), running fully manual is not that big of a deal.

Yeah, that is how mine started the first time - it felt like someone had duct-taped a triangular rock right in the middle of my heel. I trated mainly with stretching and rolling a golf ball under my foot. It would come and go over the years, but it was manageable once I knew how to handle it. I have also had the other versions, which are their own special iterations of “suck”.

I finally succumbed to taking a cortisone shot when it flared up four days before leaving on a ten-day European tour. That kept it at bay for about two years, and I am now back to stretching.

I also use one of those electric shiatsu foot massagers, you might want to check into those too.

Yes you are right on electrical thermostats being a problem during an outage. Stoves like Blaze King have mechanical thermostats but getting to know the stove will likely be just as good

Drew, the large 32 oz bird seed cakes are available from Kaytee. I get all my Bird seeds from Menards. Much cheaper than anyplace else. Their brand is usually about $5. They last about 2 weeks. I do not need to fill feeder ever few days.

Good Morning!!!! 43F @ 4:30AM.
Rain. High 48F. Winds light and variable. Chance of rain 100%. Rainfall possibly over one inch.
Today's rain is coming in from the south, but by tomorrow the cold air from Alaska will be back. The recent rains look to have been enough to stop the fall in the Lake Oroville level at 658', about 30' above the last year's record low.

A fresh air feed for the Quadrafire woodstove here was an option, and I'm very happy I chose to have it installed. A very good draft starts almost immediately when a fire is lit; an automatic spring driven damper gets opened at startup, and fifteen minutes later it closes itself. The regular damper stays 3/4 closed all the time. It's an EPA stove, and burns hot enough so it produces very little smoke. No catalyst required.

Did that study have any comparisons to using no mask at all, or to using the simple cloth masks that seem so popular, Don? Hard to believe the N95 wasn't more effective, as the fit is far superior than the medical masks I see people wearing. Then again, the N95 still lets in 5% of the particles.

Got as much gravel as I wanted spred on the driveway hill yesterday, but since the roller never showed up, it's rather loose on the fresh side. Today's rain is supposed to be more of an all day drizzle, so hopefully everything stays where it should be. Still have about fifteen tons left, enough to fix some low spots and cover more area around the house.

I didn't get the firewood pallet swapped out yesterday, but there looks to be enough inside already to last until the weather breaks on Tuesday. It's still a comfortable 72F inside after last night's burn, so no need to stoke it again this morning.

Not sure what I'll get up to today, except that it'll be inside.

Hope everyone has a great weekend!

Good Morning
It’s 50 in light rain, supposed to start clearing starting at noon through the evening.High of 55. Sunny tomorrow.

Stayed busy yesterday, but never got the driveway markers installed, (did get them, and the driver for them into the back of the Carryall), or the oil changed in the tractor. Maybe today.

One little thing that was annoying to me was that the media server for the FIOS would have to reboot when there was a power interruption and the generator started and transferred. I had an old APC 280w UPS with a dead battery, and some 12ah SLA batteries that were too big to fit in the case, so I extended the battery wires and used a battery that I had externally. Works like a charm. I already had a UPS on the TV, FIOS box, and receiver in our bedroom, so now if we are watching TV and the power goes out, it will go unnoticed. Definitely a first world concern, but it’s the implementation that I enjoy, I’m not even a big TV watcher.

Did sear the beef for the pot roast on the the grill and got it in the crock pot, the band was happy and well fed.

Was a good day overall regardless of what didn’t get accomplished.

Today is another day, I’ll see what I get done.

Don, hope the shot has a lasting effect. Have fun on the tractor.
Kilroy, I like that cookie idea. Maybe I should put Crunchy in small letters on box...
you may start a new trend! Remember a couple decades ago, when some corporate execs snidely stated “nobody wants a mushy chocolate chip cookie” and yet someone persisted until “Soft Batch” became all the rage?

this could be the bleeding edge of the latest thing!

52 and still raining, until afternoon, probably. Going up to 62, though.

M7, we have been burning a Jotul woodstove for a number of years and highly recommend their quality and burn times. Nice ash tray, no cat.

Don, glad you have your foot on the mend...mine seem often on the edge of getting mad at me, and then settle down.

Assembly Day #3 today. Did get some Home Depot shopping and Tex-Mex yesterday.

Buppies, we didn't want ice anyway, right?

Our existing stove is a Jotul. Works fine but the firebox is too small for longer burns and it does not heat enough on very cold days. Firebox size should be around 3 cubic feet to hold enough wood and be able to load longer pieces like 20 to 22 inch would be great. The catalytic stoves are supposedly more efficient but I think it is only marginal more. Fresh air is good and will prevent some cold air from leaking into the room

51° and .3” of rain in the night.
Slept in, that was nice.

Wife put too much flour in sugar cookies the other day, so is now making another batch. The hard ones are available for our crunching pleasure.

Neighbors having their annual Christmas tree cutting party today. Bunch of their relatives and friends get together, they go to a tree farm and cut their Christmas trees, then come back and have a big potluck meal. We use artificial tree, but we take a dish of food and go over to eat. I remember 1 year having about a foot of snow on the first weekend in December.
