Good morning! 49˚F heading to the mid 70s, mostly clear skies, nice day.

The shuttle shift on the New Holland I was driving kept slipping to neutral making me look like a bad driver, so I thought what would Kyle or Popgadget do. Kyle would take it apart find the worn piece and make it in his shop at work and have it repaired in three days. Popgadget would have a spare part in his tool box and could have it repaired in 2 hours. So I had to think what would MacGyver do and I came up with this solution with a small tie down. It worked, and the last day of the Fall Festival with with two tractors, continued. We still have another two weeks to work but the crowds are supposed to be minimal and one tractor, the Kubota, is all that will be needed.

I agreed to continue with the Christmas Festival, starting two weeks after the Fall Festival ends. The Christmas Festival will continue till Dec 31 and then we will have a long winter break.

This weekend was not record breaking because of the overcast skies Saturday but we all were kept busy and there were 8 shifts for the tractor drivers to fill. I did two late shifts.

Good Morning and a Happy Halloween to all.
It’s 38 out and going to top 60. Dense fog now, clearing, then rain later this evening.

Yesterday was another day of clean up, I did pickup 4 bags of charcoal and clean and reload the firebox on the smoker, got the wedding stuff largely taken care of. We ended up draining beer into a drainage swale just to make the kegs easier to lift. Kept them cold for a week, and tried to give them away for someone to empty the old fashioned way, but no takers.
When the temperature peaked about 60 in the afternoon, I headed to the airport and took the biplane out for about an hour exercise. It was not uncomfortably cold, I think the new rule might be temperature has to be within 10 degrees of my age to take it out.
Fall colors were just stunning, followed the Delaware River for a while, and enjoyed the sights. I’m kicking myself for not taking any pictures, maybe I’ll have to go up again later this week.

Today, I’m thinking about extending a PEX airline in the shop over to the press to make it tidier to hook up to it. Maybe try to clear off the woodworking bench which is piled with stuff as horizontal surfaces are magnets for things that don’t really belong there. Typically half the stuff belongs in the trash, or actually has a home and just didn’t make it there.

We are supposed to have some trick or treaters this evening, a rare occurrence here. Our lane is over a quarter mile, and the road itself is sparsely populated with no side walks, so we are not a “target rich environment” like the nearby subdivisions. So other than friends driving their young kids her, there are no walkers.

Can you post pictures of the biplane? I've had a couple of large scale RC Biplanes. I got a joy ride in a Pitts when I was a kid.

Caught an episode of the Living Off Grid TV show last night, Drew, where a fella made floating homes supported by bags of thousands of plastic beverage bottles. It looked rickety as all get out, with the plywood delaminating and nothing really solid. Didn't seem to be any doors in the place, either. Tropical setting, so maybe they aren't needed? Not my cup of tea, but the rich guy that paid for it all seemed happy.

That fish looks almost as big as your boy, Kyle!

Love that table setup on the press frame, Paul. I find myself making do with less than optimum setups because the lower beam on my press frame is very heavy and the pins that support it aren't easy to get properly aligned. But like Ted said, I use it so infrequently it's hard to justify the time needed for the mod. Just curious, is the worm on the hoist fine enough that it doesn't unwind under the weight of the beam? Or do you have to hold it while you fiddle around getting the pins in place?

The weather was pretty good for the weekend, warm enough to shed some layers and still break a sweat at times, yet cool and foggy in the mornings to make us appreciate the sunshine even more later in the day. We had maybe three dozen turn out for the campout, and it was nice to see old friends, and make some new ones. Two of those had experience with Subaru conversions on Vanagons, and both had good ideas that may help me find my issue. And another fella wants to sell me a BMW transmission for only half what it's worth. He wouldn't take what I offered for it, which was almost double his price!

Saturday we rode a short loop mileage wise, but the roads were so narrow and rough they took us all morning and a bit into the afternoon as well. Fortunately they were sparsely travelled, and it was easy to see why. What passed for pavement in most areas was little more than a collection of patches.

I've been going to that campout for many years, yet somehow had never found time to visit the nearby lighthouse. It had an interesting museum in the converted lighthouse tender's home, and one display showed how the Fresnel lens floated on a mercury bearing. Over 600 pounds of the stuff. The bearing was decommissioned when the lamp was switched over to use electricity.

Rode home yesterday with two fellas from Nevada. We'd agreed the night before to leave at 8:30AM in order to be at the favored restaurant when it opened, but I ended up standing around watching them pack for nearly an hour. Then more stops for gas and rest, and yet another food stop where our paths parted. I passed on that meal, as I was only an hour from home at that point, and had had enough fooling around. They both got home OK, but the last few hours was in the dark for them.

My last stop for gas yesterday was at an Indian casino I'd spotted on the trip out. Over a dollar less per gallon than a station in the nearby town, and a lot less than the seven dollars a gallon we paid on the coast.

Hope everyone's week gets started in the right direction...

Hard to understand the differences in gas prices based on location. Some of it is tax related and some of it is transportation differences and then some of it is just pure markup for extra profit

Good morning! 55 now, high of 67, maybe. It is drizzling again.

Hope yor daughter’s surgery goes well M7040.

Finally going to get a haircut this afternoon. Getting pretty shaggy.

Spent yesterday cleaning up a corner in the garage. It isn’t done but looks much better.

We have had a 6 gallon shop vac for years. It works great but is bulky to use for small jobs. Friday, I bought a 2 gallon DeWalt that uses their 20V batteries. I used it for a couple of small things Friday afternoon, gave it a workout yesterday doing the clean up project. Was quite pleased with it, made cleaning shelves much quicker and easier.

Not sure what I will get into today, but I will find something.
