On the trail yesterday near Waynesboro, colors still vivid. Seems like the longest period for trees to keep their Autumn colors in memory. Plus, it was neat to see the purple wildflowers blooming.

That's a very nice fish, and Phil how about a pic of the drill press?
Fixing up old machinery is great fun and satisfying.

A lot of you folks have really nice gun collections.
If you live on a big farm, or in the woods, seems like no one should complain over sounds of target practice.
Particularly if you are in the country. Or the mountains.
I for sure can't shoot off anything bigger than a bb gun in this protected neighborhood.
Bet I'd get a ticket or get arrested if I shot a gopher with a .22

Always a problem of what's behind you, or what can ricochet if rocks nearby.
Buppies, do you have a range at your home? I thought with that hill you are on, you could shoot into dirt.
Just wonder about neighbors.

I learned to shoot with target practice using a single shot .22 on cans and bottles in the dump in the woods on the farm.
Box after box of shorts, with unending woods in front of me. No houses at all, nothing for half a mile.
I still like to shoot a rifle for target practice. Cannot pick up a handgun.
But I was pondering this:
Byrna | Best Non Lethal Self-Defense Products
just not sure if it would just irritate a crazy person vs incapacitate him/her.

Have always believed in a good defense. Before someone pounds me on the neck with a hammer too.
Hope my large container of pepper spray works. Wonder if it will get back on me.

A big dog would help.
I think I'd rather get a fish tank.
They won't be much help.

Good Morning.
It’s 30 and will get to 60 today, another great fall day.

Yesterday was spent mostly with the press project, but I took the opportunity to sweep and clean up in the shop because I moved the press into the center bay with the tractor and forks, and left everything outside while I worked on it, leaving a lot of open space.

While pondering what today would bring, it dawned on me that I never cleaned out the fire box on the smoker. Then I remembered that I was out of charcoal. So a trip to HD to get some hardwood charcoal is probably first on the agenda, as I like to load the firebox up after I clean it out, so it’s ready to go.

I think that I ought to take the biplane out for a ride, and break my rule that the temperature has to be above my age to fly it. That rule is starting to create a pretty short season. It seemed to make sense 40 years ago…..

Good morning, colder this morning with 36 at the moment going to 58 or so no rain.
Wood fire is going in the stove.
Drew, the chinking between the logs in the old days was made with a mix of mortar and horse hair. Today there are better products made for the purpose that are flexible and allow for movement of the logs.
It is always interesting to me when old tools are restored or updated to be more useful. Being retired I should have loads of time to get into more of this but reality is that getting a few hours here and there is all that I accomplish.
Also I am still nursing my shoulder injury and trying to limit the movement of the right shoulder. Using the left more to compensate.
Around here people target shoot all the time. Wondering about the backstops they are using but no hits on the house so far. When we lived in the Mohave desert we used to go target shooting at a graveyard for old cars.
Our dog is a Sheltie (Shetland Sheepdog) and he is super tuned into alerting to visitors or new sounds. It can be too much at times but it is also good to know someone is coming

Good morning! 52 now, high about 64 today. May get some rain tomorrow. Today is dry tho.

We really have ‘t started putting things away for winter, May make some progress on that today. Or not. See what I feel like.

Got a package from the UK, was scheduled for November 8 delivery. I ordered October 18, arrived yesterday. 6BA hell-coil set to repair threads on 4 inserts for tank badges on a BSA tank. Ordering from the UK was less than half the price from a US supplier. I have the correct screws, finding a metric or SAE screw that looks correct was proving difficult. So repairing the inserts to original thread was gonna be the way to go.

Looks like we are gonna get a new front door (frame and door) and upstairs bath room. Wife is heading up those projects. She thinks we can do both, but she feels a contractor can do both better and faster. I don’t disagree :ROFLMAO:

Got asked again if I want to do some consulting work involving using specialized excavators in steel mill maintenance work. It is a very specialized application with very few people that actually know the equipment and application. I can count the number of people really knowledgeable on less than 2 hands. And none of us are young. I am likely one of the younger ones, president of a competitor in Germany is the youngest. I am thinking I may do it, put the money in a new truck fund….. Seems odd, but I do miss the steel mill business.

Moving slow today, we went to the brewery last night for dinner, band, and beers. Stayed up too late.

Hey Kyle……I am learning getting a good start on a J&M Kawasaki with 100 HP is a lot trickier than getting a good start on Trackmaster Triumph with 60 HP. I am still learning the secret hand shake.

Everyone stay safe out there!

Morning all 54 going up to 63 and sunny.
Dryer part they sent me was wrong one, but got felt lower and upper "bearing" slides in and they dryer is working well, even with the one slide holder in bad shape.
Took a lot longer as I removed the old bearing to find the new bearing would not fit, painful to get back in.
Working on a return.

That was most of my day ...

PopG - The press automation looks great.
L4N - like the understated - got my driveway regraded- bet that was a bit of work

Leafs blown up, in one field now have a 4' tall wall up against the woods, wonder how long that will take to break down.

Stakes and stuff around the two trees the rest will get treated during the week, they are closer to the house.

Today it's bill paying time.

Growing up we used to go to the local range with my dad's 8mm Mauser rifle.
That thing was a handfull.
I also used a loaned .22 target rifle, which was big $ even when I was a kid.
Biggest pistol I ever fired was a muzzle loader, thing threw a big flame when it went off.
I barely hit the target and the owner laughed and told me that was pretty good for the first time shoot.

Hmm, why did the new one on the bottom not fit....

So many trees (ash) down I can see the mountains easily now.
