Starlink

Be careful with TP-Link stuff.
I've several of their powerline extenders.
I set one up as an extender in my Mississippi house that just got fiber a few months ago.
I had the ISP provided router and an ISP provided extender already but was NOT getting a reliable connection on a third floor.
I've about 10 Wyze IP cameras hooked up, monitoring the house.
So I put in a TP-Link extender I had on hand.
All worked fine for about a week. So I left for Virginia.
A week later, after I was in Virginia, got an interruption, everything went down, everything came back up,
ALL the wireless devices latched onto the TP-Link extender instead of the router.
The software for my ISP's router showed all devices hooked up, but none could send to the internet.
Called the ISP, they showed the same. Only solution was to get someone to go in and disable the TP-Link.
Which after a few weeks my BIL did. But he had to turn it back on to get all the cameras to come up.
All is working now but I need to reconfigure all the cameras to get the TP-Link out of the picture.
I've read of others having problems with TP-Link devices mixed in with other networking equipment,

Sounds like a mess. I read only good reviews so far. I'll dig deeper into this. Starlink offers their own mesh but reviews said it lacked in features that diminished signal performance. Have you heard anything about the Starlink mesh router for $130. I have 8 Zosi cameras around the home also but I have no need to get them online. My ring 2 ring doorbell cameras are monitored on my phone. I don't have a smart house.
I do want to hardwire my PC for gaming. I play Warthunder every night while chatting with friends around the world. I've been doing this over a cellphone connection for years. I'm really looking forward to a better connection.

I wouldn't necessarily fault the company TP-Link. Wifi extenders are notoriously problematic. Mirroring a wifi network and halving your bandwidth (due to needing to send & receive over the same channel) are not ideal.

I've had other TP-Link devices, including the Deco M9 Plus mesh system, which are excellent.

I'm at 33.48ish
North is good - clear of the big trees shading the south side.

I’m still using Ver 1 Eero routers and happy with them. I do not put SL on bypass.

Yes, Dishy points North.

I'd say the SL dish "tilts towards the north" versus "points north". If you watch the OP's video you can see the dish in its final position with a slight tilt towards the north. It is more horizontal than vertical in orientation.

Up and running! Starlink box arrived yesterday - was easy to set up. Hardest part was finding and enabling iphone permissions for the set up.
Speeds are as good as my sometimes 5g cellphone but nothing crazy. In fact the upload speeds are slower than the AT&T cellphone. Still waiting for the Ethernet cable adapter. Hopefully that makes an significant improvement.

Got an email that my equipment shipped and should arrive Thursday. Maybe by next weekend I will be able to test their “best effort”. I watched a couple of YT videos about it with positive experiences. Maybe I will have one too.

I did the update to the app and restarted my phone and the message changed. Looks like they are aware although no notice that I can find.

Update. After rebooting everything still kept getting this message. So I opened a support ticket with SL. Took a few days for them to respond but they said the were aware of the issues and to update the app. I looked for updates and sure enough there was another one. I had updated it just a few days before.

Well that did not fix the issue. SL closed my ticket before I could respond. I kept checking and still got the same message. Interesting enough it did work at my office and checked the speed of our system there no problem. It just would not work on the SL.

Today I looked for updates again and they released one 3 days ago. I did the update and now it works with one glitch. When you first open the app and run the speed test I get the same message. But when you try again it works. It continues to work on until you close the app. Then I get the same message only on the first test. Lol

So if you are experiencing this issue do the latest update to the app.

Got mine yesterday. Question about my upload speed. I'm getting 60-120 down but 4-8 up.
What's up with the ridiculously slow upload?

It's on the roof - cable running out the window. lol. It is working pretty good. I gamed with friends online last night for hours without interruption.
The starlink service certainly kept up.
Once I figure where everything is going I will drill that 3/4 " hole through the wall.
Got a notice the mesh router, cable adapter, and roof mount shipped. (y)

Does anybody have experience good or bad with the Starlink mesh router?

I got the SL mesh router hopes I’d get a better extended signal at my tractorshed for my solar electric, to replace my Eero mesh. Not the solution I hope for
IMG_1037.JPG

My hope had been to extend the 2nd router to a switch as my solar requires to wired ethernet connections.

Could be tempted to place another SL mesh router in between, but would only do so if I got lucky and found a cheap one.

I just hooked up the new mesh node. I thought it would have reached farther but I do have a lot of walls...

I put a video out there of my test instal of my Starlink. We love it so far. I have not used it for work yet so that will be the real test.

My wife and I have worked from home for well over a year with SL as the primary ISP. It works splendidly. I'm on Teams/WebEx/Zoom calls much of the day with audio & video streaming, which is one of the more intensive activities for an ISP, and it works fine. With your unobstructed dish location you should be golden.

I've been using the starlink for a week or so. I like it. I'm gaming and communicating with friends online in the evenings as usual with SL now.
It is better than my cellphone wifi which I've been using for years via the microwave towers. I think the new SL mesh node took a day to settle in. Today the speeds out in the garage aka shipping room got almost 100 mbps Which is great for the laptop I use out there. I'm thinking I can use a router to send that signal out to the barn (shop) 200 ft away no problem
Today I got notice my cable adapter and roof mount shipped - most everything delivering next day here in so cal. Still excited. If I can cut the cellphone internet services for 3 computer air cards, and countless devices in the house and shop I can save a bundle

Maybe you can move one or both of the routers closer to one another. Aloha
