There's no fooling anyone...many of the required capabilities are just now on the horizon...

Heck...some of the oldest AI technology is rooted in robotics and much of that has been adapted into self driving vehicles etc... and we can all see how far that has come to date...!

one milestone that will be interesting will be the first corporate board of directors meetings where the entire meeting (including taken minutes etc.) is done by computers in a matter of microseconds with all decisions being the best possible choices etc. for the corp...no in house politics etc...!

That's fine...Algorithms don't really "learn"...
And to reach even the cusp of it's (AI) capabilities it requires running millions or even billions (ever increasing number) of algorithms at one time...what you're talking about is running maybe one or two at the same time...

Edit: Robotics Process Automation (RPA) as it is now being referred to today, is actually programing but now there are tools that do a lot of the code so you don't have to be such a smart programer. They are going after tasks that were once repetitive tasks that a person would do or a sequence of tasks that you would do on a regular basis. Really not that difficult to do. I have a degree in programming, though I don't do it now.

I can tell you that the RPA programs they have today would take a lot of lines of code for a conventional programmer to do what the RPA software can do in a fraction of time. Programming is probably another example of a skilled job that could be done by a computer, getting closer and closer to it.

Like the little voice to text option on your firestick or phone, it replaces what used to require a bunch of keystrokes with a voice recognition and instructions sent to your TV. At some point you will be able to verbally tell a computer what app you want generated and it will do it.

@Raul-02 Forgot about CNC, that is a great example of a skilled labor job that was replaced by robotics. There are some skilled jobs that could be done robotically, welding is another good one.

My wife 'teleworked' for years and it was never a problem but she was always disciplined about her work time. She would still go in about once a week anyway. She retired a GS13 step 10 and I thank the lord she had the job she had. She carried her health and welfare into retirement and if it wasn't for that insurance, we'd be bankrupt today. My hospital bill for my cancer was just over a million bucks and it's still ongoing.

Not trying to ask questions here but I am a health insurance agent. If you are under age 65 you should be eligible for an Major Medical Health insurance plan with NO pre-exisiting conditions in it. Maybe at subsided prices. If you want to discuss this further send me a private email. I am not trying to sell you anything but most likely I am not in your state and only sell in South Carolina. NOW CHECK TO BE SURE MEDICINES AND PROVIDERS are in any new plan. Hey they change in all plans over time.

Now if you are on Medicare you again have plans you should be eligible for. Again if you want to ask me anything PM me.

I have been a life and health agent for 36 years. Customer service has seen many change over all those years. Many of the health insurance companies use outsourcing for customer services. It is complaint city!! Have one company who tells the agents it is terrible, has the insurance call you, you call us and we will handle it (this is the sales managers and such telling us this.) At the same time that company is spending something like 60 million dollars to build and staff the USA customer service center to solve those complaints.

I have another company (the one I have myself) who not only uses only USA customer service, but they are also their employees, in the same city, in the same building as the sales operations and management operations. I sell about 90 with that company, why? Because of how great their customer service is.

Interesting discussion. I think you are both right. The problem I see is we have raised a generation that does not believe in hard work. When I was a youth I believed the harder I worked the more I earned. Not so with todays' workfarse. It started with participation awards. We all knew that was BS but young parents insisted their child not suffer the anguish of defeat. There would be no winners or losers, just participants. From there they went on to $100k college degrees in nothing useful. They resided in their parents home and quit any job that was not fun and easy.
Basically we have a entitled society. People today feel they are entitled to the things we worked our buts off for, like a nice home, a nice car, a good job, health car, retirement funds, vacations and more. This will surly bankrupt the nation unless the next generation wakes up and gets to work.

I think you are generalizing about an entire generation. My two sons worked their way through college, well they are are still in school working on PHDs, but they are also working. Their degrees are in useful fields. Their wives also have useful degrees and work full time. In my field, I interact with and hire recent graduates. I’m very impressed with most of the recent graduates and think they are better prepared for professional work than my generation was after graduation.

Had an experience a couple of weeks ago that gives me hope for the young workers coming into the workforce. We had a new quartz countertop installed. The two early 20 something, young men who installed it did a flawless job. There were 2 seams in the counters that required color matching the epoxy to the quartz. They took the time necessary to mix the color for a perfect match. When they were done the seams were barely visible and the joint is perfect on both the countertop and the front edge.
I can't say enough about the care and attention to detail these young men displayed. And they were proud of the work and determined that we would be completely satisfied before the left.
This gives me hope for the younger generation.

I know of some people who move away from high C19 areas and states working remote and now companies saying return back to their office,some are putting up fuss and expecting companies to help with their changes...hmmm.

Last winter, One of my customers had me install a couple thousand feet of split rail fence. Unfortunately, my son was at college and could not help me. The customer kept trying to push these two 20-something’s on me as helpers. I told him if HE wanted to pay them to help me, he could.
BAD mistake. These 2 “geniuses” spent 1/2 the day looking at their phones, taking selfies and re-tying their “man buns”. I coulda whupped them both in a fight and ended up doing more work then both of them combined. I had to teach them how to use a shovel and post hole diggers.
Customer kept bringing them both cold drinks and talking to them. No wonder they sucked at work. For the love of God I was happy when that was done. Never again will I do that.

With all that said, it’s the PARENTS of these softees that are responsible for this. Parents need to stop with the coddling and start applying the boot to the butt on these kids. They will learn and appreciate that you taught them hard work. I know my kids appreciate I wouldn’t stand for any of that nonsense.

Well, that's old school. Not saying you are wrong. I was raised the old school way. Heck I ran with scissors, drank from a garden hose, and talked to strangers, and worked like a mule most of my life.
But today's kids see the world differently. Most of them view hard labor as something to avoid. I saw it as way to make lots of money but todays kids have money making opportunities we never dreamed of. They buy and sell stuff on the internet. They deliver people and things with their own car. And they minimize their expenses for housing and food by living at home. It's a different world today, we have to realize our values are not their values. I didn't raise any kids so I'm not shouldering any of the blame
