I don't do Hurricanes, Tornadoes, Typhoons or Floods. I ride out the Earthquakes and strive to be Firewise. I plow, shovel and roof-rake the Snow and have ample wood supply for heat. Life is Good! Forgot those annoying Volcanos, we just sweep the ash off when they act up!

Hurricane Rita had hurricane strength winds 111 miles inland.
I live 48 miles inland from where eye came ashore, so 50 miles would not have got me out of the hurricane. I crazily rode out Rita will never do that again, category 1;2;3 stay category 4 and 5 leave. Plus as noted in Texas you have to go several miles to get enough rooms and restaurants to support large groups of people.

What really drives them nuts is when they find out their state purchases power from neighboring states generated by….ready for it….

I’m anti electric cars but you’re really stretching the truth to say most people have an extra 5 gallons of gas sitting around. What percent of people do you think keep their vehicle under 1/4 tank of gas as well? The answer is a lot. And it only takes a few unprepared idiots running out of fuel to make a big problem for everyone else.

I guess the key is to not be "that guy" with <1/4 tank of gas. Personally, I always keep my cars near full.

EV wouldn’t be my emergency vehicle of choice, but a hurricane, what’s the problem? Are we talking about getting to safety? Or driving to their hurricane vacation destination?

Speaking of which, we could sure use a hurricane or 2 right now, reservoirs are a bit low in N. Tex, a good hurricane is useful to top them off.
