For the next week or so we are looking forward to daughter's travel for the State Department to Austria. She always keeps us involved with pictures and videos as she travels. She has traveled to many countries and continents in her role as a intelligence/defense contractor and now more recently at the State Department. It gives us a lot satisfaction that she is successful and keeps us involved in sharing her experiences from being under rocket attacks in Afghanistan to travel to remote places of the world

Cool and sunny this morning.

Buckeye, it seems like the cost of everything to do with construction is out of wack. I wonder if people who are building now will be able to get their money back when they sell. I get the feeling people have a lot of money to throw around. Hard to tell if things will ever get back to normal. Will I be telling my grand kids that I can remember when you could get a stud for $2?

Drew, Rolling the driveway after grading really helps it last.

A lot of people thinking things gotta go down, that these prices can’t be sustained. Who knows.
I’m pretty discouraged right now.
I’m not sure if it was the $20-25k well estimate, or the fact wells in that area are so deep. Not sure I want a 700 ft deep well even if it was already on a lot. In ohio you hit oil at that level

I bought my previous WV property at $1k an acre about 28 yrs ago. It had 4-5 acres nice on top, and the rest down the side of the mountain. Most bought for hunting.

I like WV because you can still build things yourself without a lot of hassle. But will look in VA again.

I need a lot of new gravel, too, Drew, but I don't even want to think about what trucking fees have become.

I dont know about those little red Hatch chilis, Ted. When I was chopping up the green ones, I ate a dime sized piece and it was more than plenty hot for me. I was worried a half dozen of them would be too hot for the stew, but it came out just right. A pleasant heat, but not so much it burned our lips. Lots of folks in NM like it that way, but that's way too hot for me!

I'm still watching the real estate markets in a few different locations, and all of them are experiencing price deflation now, Ted. Interest rates are up, and that's taking a lot of buyers out of the market. And with aligatoritius on the run, more and more people are going back to in person work, and they're rethinking their plans to move out into the sticks and telecommute. I'm hoping my patience will be rewarded in much lower prices in a year or so.

Lots of new wildfires in Northern California since this heat wave started. Had one yesterday afternoon only a mile across the canyon. As usual, my first clue was hearing a fire bomber circling. Then I watched as a fire truck came up from the south on the road at the top of the ridge, and stopped in front of a large barn. There was so much smoke already in the air it was hard to tell where the fire was, but they got it stopped at two acres. No hint as to the cause, again as usual.

We've also been under a FLEX alert for the past few days, where people are asked to cut back on electricity use in the 4-9PM hours to avoid rolling blackouts. I wonder how the powers that be expect us all to charge our new fangled government mandated electric cars when we don't even have enough generation capacity to keep our homes cool in the summer?

Did some juggling on the network and removed a defective switch yesterday, than got it boxed up to return for a warranty replacement. Be interesting to see how long that takes. That's two strikes now on the Ubiquiti equipment, no make that three. The first "smart" doorbell I got went belly up after a few months, too.

Spent the rest of the day inside putting together some web pages to document the restoration work on the old motorcycles these past few years. Have to get it done before I forget the details.

Solar power seems hard to justify unless you are off grid. Payout periods of 8 to 10 years does not look appealing. I have the space for it and have looked at it from time to time but considering payout period and cleaning and upkeep over time it does not work for me.
The company I worked for was into building large solar installations including some with mirrors heating boilers and generating steam for turbine generators. With the right power sales agreements this can be very successful

Good morning to all! Low of 52°, going up to 87° today. A slight chance of a sprinkle..... then tomorrow has a better chance, then the weekend brings us some moisture from the storm off the Baja. Very good storm chances over the weekend and early next week.

M7040, you are blessed, being able to deal effectively with the family issues. Sounds like you have overcome a bit of adverse problems.

We also have some spam 2-3x a year. I consider it very good cooked on the grill.... just changes the taste / consistency for the better. Even if going into eggs, I still grill it first.

BEF, I am curious as to why you want to leave your current place.... it's beautiful! Too big?

Drew, try to remember where the paint is supposed to go..... on the door. I have a good visual of paint spattered all over your front....
Did you find out what happened to the tractor yet?

I was awakened last night with the worst abdominal pains that I've ever experienced! So bad, that I seriously thought about going to the hospital. Lasted about 2 hours, then slowly got better. This morning, the belly and flanks are actually sore to touch, like the areas are bruised. Seems like my entire abdomen was in a bad muscle spasm....
Definitely strange, no gas, no diarrhea, no vomiting....
Wifey had a similar issue / pain on Tuesday, just as intense.

I'm going to hold off on working on the Jeep until maybe this afternoon... I don't want to aggravate the abdomen and have to experience that pain again.

They are cool bikes. The older bikes don't have a bunch electronics and are simpler
to work on. Also the shaft drive is neat

Don’t recall all the details.

what a marvelous answer I got. Not done yet.

got painting done at church, got into some nasty wood around door to kitchen, rot, delamination, fixed it as best as I could
and used a lot of Kilz primer on this. But the handrailings and entrance way to Nursery School all painted and looking nice for school opening on Monday.
At some point in future we'll change out bottom four inches of wood. As usual wicks moisture up from bottom

now out to mow the lawn and I bet there are more tomatoes.

The 1963 forks were unique with the hinged design just before they changed to telescopic forks
