I had to move a 16" blow down red maple off the road late this morning. It was so hot my saw was out of tune. It ran like a saw from the '70's. Low RPM, a little rich, and smoky. But then again, I was a little out of tune myself at 86 degrees.

Oh, 86 degrees... nice and cool!! :D :) ;)

Sure can relate to that.

I was cutting trees out of the road yesterday... talk about stupid. We had dropped off bridge materials so I had to get a tractor trailer through so that he could turn around. One was bowing out over the road so I jumped out and thought "I'll be standing on the road, so don't need to mess with chaps." Another 100 feet, two more trees which I had to crawl through the brush in the ditch to cut. Then another, and a couple more... I probably cut and bucked 30 trees before I was done. I usually won't even start a saw without chaps, it wouldn't have taken 30 seconds to snap them on.

Here in Vermont, state law requires all residents to complain about the heat anytime the heat index exceeds 84˚F. Punishment for failure to meet this requirement: you are forced to eat pancakes with Mrs Butterworth's Syrup. Repeat offenders are forced to attend their local fire department pancake breakfast and publicly consume Mrs Butterworth's while surrounded by community members enjoying real maple syrup on their pancakes.

Trying out those big bulk firewood bags

I had a wake up call today. Went out to cut firewood from a stack of logs. Slipped while saw was running as I finished a cut. I threw the saw as I fell and twisted my back. I was wearing chaps so a running saw may not have have been too dangerous but better safe than sorry.

I hate chaps but wear them.

You just expressed the opinion of many of us. The old Frenchman who ran the saw shop I used had pads in his pants for when he had to start a saw up. He was a wood cutter before all of the safety equipment came out, so that made an impression on me.

I may be switching back to chainsaw pants when my present chaps are due for replacement. I wore some Husqvarna pants for a few years. They were bulky, but worked OK. Some of the newer designs out now look a lot more comfortable, and may be cooler than chaps in hot weather. I'm not really in to the "form fitting" look of them, but I'm not picking clothing for a fashion show. If they are comfortable in hot weather, and protect well, they can make them in pink with lace trim for all I care.

I've had them in the past and have thought about going back to them. One thing that I like about chaps though is that you can easily take them off on hot days, when you aren't running the saw.
