I thought the sensor that shorts out & blows fuse may tell the intake heating element OR the glow plugs when to come on for winter time cold starts idk
maybe it does control injection pump timing in really cold temps.
Thanks & your welcome Jim.
so when you push the ign key strait into the spring loaded switch it heats an intake heating element since it doesn’t have glow plugs ?

I'll bet heater intake will power up without cold start sensor that controls inj pump timing. What's the ambient temp when you're attempting to start engine? If temp is 32°F & above I'll bet your tractors engine will start running without the aid of a functioning intake heater

Didn't intend to have a Deere fleet - it just happened 310C, F915,102, 5200 & 5065E
Brown Dog .. Thanks for coming back and letting us know what fixed your tractor. It's grinds my gears when folks get suggestions for their problem then ghosts the forum.
It's a disservice to future searches and rude to the forum members.

RE503242 is referred to as a temperature switch in 5093E, 5101E & many other JD parts catalogs. My understanding is this temp. switch senses coolant temp & aids in altering injection pump timing during colder ambient temperature initial engine start process.
That same type temp switch has been failing since introduction of the 5X10 model JD utility tractors. I wonder how many 1000 of those temperature switches JD dealers have sold in 20+ yrs
