Just imagine Italian cooking without tomatoes. Spaghetti, lasagna etc...

Tomatoes are a New World fruit. Even when the first explorers got to the America's, most thought tomatoes were poisonous. Europeans did not eat them for some time after. Until the 1690's, it was thought to be a poisonous member of the nightshade family.
According to my Grandfather, they were also known as "Love Apples" because they were believed to be an aphrodisiac.

Due to our cool weather, many of the tomato varieties that I plant are of Russian origin. Being a new world plant, they sure made their way around the globe, re-writing Italian cooking along the way. Or is Italian cooking in Italy not as focused on tomatoes as it is in the US?

MossRoad inspired me to start this thread when, in another thread, he mentioned the only two foods he doesn't care to eat.
I can't think of a single food I don't like. I'll keep thinking and add it to this thread if something comes to mind. How about everyone else... Is there any food you do not like?
I despise creamed corn.
I will get sick if someone brings it in the house.

I haven't had that since I was a kid. My mom used to make it. I enjoyed it.

Funny how one man's sickness is another man's treat.

(Well, that didn't come out sounding the way I was hoping) 🤣

I like creamed corn on a baked potato with butter below the corn. Yum. Some diced bacon in there is an extra treat. Some caramelized onions along with the bacon...... I need to stop before I go in the kitchen and make myself a nightcap. :ROFLMAO:

I love cooked cabbage, especially with good corned beef; frog legs and calf fries too (fried, and without the cabbage)! Escargo is another matter...
