I am allergic to mustard oils, so there are a bunch of things, “I don’t like”. Mustard is in a lot of different foods, typically hidden under the generic term slices. I have inadvertantly eaten it enough times, that I can pretty much sense it on my tongue before I swallow things now.
But, it is in some ketchups, nearly all barbecue sauces, lots of different cured meats and sausages, mayonnaise, nearly all salad dressings, baked beans, the list could go on forever. Mustard seems to be every cooks secret ingredient, and they don’t want to tell you it’s in things.
People add mayonnaise to cake mixes. I cook enough to know all you need to do is add extra egg yolks and oil instead.
and just about every ‘chefs” interpretation of Nuevo Cuisine is to add mustard to the ingredients which don’t traditionally have it.
I learned to cook, so I would know which foods were safe. They will add it to Thai foods that never had it.
