A lot of the Datsuns and such had 5 on the column in Japan in the early 70's

Definitions change with time. Shared experiences are probably more important to splitting the gens. Gen Y had to learn how to use a computer/smartphone/device. File systems, command lines, etc. Computers were easy by the time Gen Z was using them. Either way, its up to sociologists and other academics.
I agree...I was born in 1950, which puts me at the older end of the boomer generation. I feel like I'm right at the edge of 2 generations...people a couple years older have quite different attitudes, etc. than those a couple years younger, I seem to have some of each.
As far as adapting to new technology goes, I picked up on PCs, internet, etc. pretty quickly. Was in my late 50s when smartphones came along and find quite non-intuitive and social media (Twitter, Ticktock, etc.), forget it.
Now I understand the VCR with blinking 12:00 of my parents' generation. :(

Keys... I have worn out the locks on my door several times as you don't leave anything unlocked/open unless you can see it.

Several of my plumber and electrician friends can only work having a trusted canine companion watching the truck...
My uncle had a delivery route and took his big German Shepard with him. One day he came out of the store and the dog was out and barking at the would be intruder who had climbed to the roof of the truck to escape the dog.

I'm certainly glad I don't have that issue.
I'm afraid that I would eliminate some riff raff then be in trouble.
Backhoes are for Riff Raff removal, aren't they?
I was just on a car forum talking about securing cars from theft. Until about 6 years ago, I lived on long island (that's lower Eastern NY) cars in driveway or garage and house, never locked. When we sold the house, we didn't know where the front door key was. Had to have a Key made just to move out of the house. Now in upper NY, no house keys, vehicle keys never leave the ignition. It's nice not to have those fears

I have no idea when the last time was the key was out of the ignition, but it has been more than a few days. . .
Born and lived in big city for 35 years. Now live in country on 2 acres for 40 years. Still lock anything lockable. You can take the boy out of the city, but you can't take the city out of the boy.

Lock your stuff every time. Especially at the Gas Station. Your Insurance Company will ask.........

As more and more people are moving from big cities to rural areas it will become a problem. If someone wants to steal it your right keys fit multiple machines and you can buy groups of keys at auctions. Kids joy riding is a different story and if they get hurt you could be liable. The courts call leaving the keys in an attractive nuisance.
