Actually there have been a few interesting posts recently. Unfortunately they were the intermission, not the featured show.

I would like to see someone attack it from an anthropological point of view...meaning that the characteristics that enabled humans to reach this point in their evolution, must have application to aliens. Example. Why is the human hand so nimble, and why do we have such dexterity? Answer: Because man is the only "animal" who has survived not so much as genetically evolving to adapt to his environment, but by changing his environment to allow him to survive. The human hand is the ultimate tool making machine. We have it for a reason, and it is designed to make any tool necessary. It, in combination with our shoulders, enables us to swing a club and throw a rock like no other.
I opine that any alien capable of space travel, evolved in a similar manner, where tool making was its key to survival.
Anyone read the book "The Naked Ape"?

I responded with logical answers to all. I guess you don't like your belief system being attacked. Understandable. I've encountered the same reaction when talking religion with other denominations.

I will contend that present earthling's greatest adaptation is the ability to form cohesive communities. Even if warring is part of that ability.

Think, Modern man has walked erect, had five fingers and an adequate brain for many thousands of years. But only about 10 thousand years ago was he able to "be fruitful and multiply. Our opposable thumb is no match for our predator competition, be they lion, bacteria or the weather. Only common unity has given man the upper hand. Will extra terrestials have the skill of social politic? That is hard to say.

Trad, you're not attacking my belief system just disagreeing with it, as I am with yours. Apologies if this thread about scientific (if religious) possibilities may not hold your interest, though you'd be missed, especially during a long wait to see proof of aliens much less predict what they look like.

btw, To save you saying "That Jon should be the one to talk. Hah." I wouldn't be offended. What we are is far more important than what we say. I'd roll with the punches if I saw them coming my way.
