If there are aliens, what will they look like?

You won't refute my statements because it's uncomfortable. I understand. Been there.
Physics is the branch of science that deals with the structure of matter and how the fundamental constituents of the universe interact.
So using this definition how does a pressure system (atmosphere) exist next to a vacuum (space) without a barrier?
Gravity...
Good thing too, otherwise we wouldn't be here...would we?
The lower the atmosphere, the higher the pressure...it's around 14-14 PSI at the Earth's surface and decreases at higher elevations. This is grade school stuff...

Actually, the Earth's magnetic field does quite a bit in protecting our atmosphere from solar winds/particles and cosmic rays. We are probably due on having the magnetic poles switch N/S like they have done in the past. When that happens, we have much less protection from Space.

We are told gravity exists and is a constant force. Yet how does gravity hold down the weight of the oceans and yet not crush birds in the air? How does gravity distinguish between the masses of objects? And a simple thought experiment of a globe earth (perfectly shaped btw) rotating at the speed of sound while water is adhering to its surface all the while we cannot replicate this idea, should make one question the reality we were taught since kids. I'm still waiting for the "ISS" to give us a picture of upside down boats and planes from the bottom of the sphere.

The fact that objects fall or float is explained by relative density.

Same logic would apply to any large hole in the ground. If you believe in meteors where is the big chunk of rock?

Who would imagine that a mere rock hitting the earth at thousands of miles per hour would remain intact? Nickel deposits found near meteor crater in Arizona caused some to assume ('logically') that there would be more metals and minerals at the bottom of the hole with the remains of the object.

Turns out they were mislead by those fragments from the meteor being scattered outside the crater vs in it. They had guessed wrongly and the rock didn't remain in one piece. Things falling from the sky at much lower velocities tend to fracture on impact. We conclude that the meteor was an example of a higher speed collision than say a crashing airplane or piece of 'space junk' falling from heaven. Seems logical to me and we do find remains in the aftermath.

Refute what? Dial back to where I responded, it was CLEARLY in regard to your attitude to physics and the impossible perpendicular descent, and my mistake to think on you as an engineer ... which your next response was not intelligible for having little bearing as to why you though 90 degree was impossible.

I realise cutting back my first response was well justified, as I don't think you really understand even what maths physics concept I thought you might be leaning towards.

I know very well now - what you are doing "as a tactic" is probably what you've done your life as an engineer, (well employed as such) side step, divert and create new issues to keep people's attentions diverted ... and no doubt you got promoted upwards and sideways.

Even taking time to finally clarify what you meant, simply furthered the little show you're running. almost every claimed meteor impact to be at a 90 degree angle. Had you been clearer for a start, you'd had little argument - I would say many like myself were more interested in why perpendicular was improbable.

At this point though, if it's not a semi serious or interesting engineering based musing, and not throw away comments like "That's just simple logic." which don't cut it as any sort of response as a proof or explanation as to why you think it's virtually impossible, I'll be leaving you to your own thoughts. I don't have any need to talk cats, why they aren't all the same colours etc.

BTW I would suggest you at least have the courtesy to read some posts, there's a good one above why there isn't much of the meteor left, but physics doesn't scare you so I guess you don't need to worry about it.

I'm stuck on two things. 1) That two of every specie that exists today rode in/on the same vessel for weeks with plenty of food (none eaten to extinction) and sanitary conditions onboard to do their business. 2) That all humans are descendants of Noah's immediate family of boat builders and/or distinct races either were created all at once or diverged in a handful of thousands of years. Both?

The math doesn't work for me. And I wonder how many kangaroos were on Noah's ark or whether those who wrote the holy books knew of the inhabitants of North America. Are Norsemen closer cousins to Maori than I thought when I sang in the choir and taught Sunday School in the '60s? btw, I'm taking notes.
tog

go back to post 151 and watch the video. Projection certainly, but consider. ALL cultures reference the deluge.

it was about 10-12 thousand years ago. And all the modern myths are also part of the Sumarian civilization.

There are many perspectives, but the stories align.

How big of an asteroid does it take to do a certain amount of damage or kill all life? The one that killed the dino's was about 7-8 miles wide while a all life ender would be about 60 miles wide traveling at 30k MPH.

That civilizations have risen and fallen is hardly news so I'm missing CalG's point about the video in post #151. That so much might have happened in the last six thousand years confuses me, as does that the only survivors were all on the ark. Noah could have been the original diversity guy to have had so many ethnicities in his family. Maybe there are more arks to be found on mountain tops.

Evolutionary theorists speak of 'punctuated equilibrium', literally stasis until global or local catastrophies beget rapid adaptation and/or survival of those most capable. What that has to do with aliens is not clear to me. If civilizations all had their own floods how did more than one survive? Religions have been tweaked to include stories perhaps borrowed from other cultures but take credit for knowing it all. Which one has all the facts? I'll ask around at the next Bible study meeting.

Suppose the great flood subsided when excess water fell of the edges of the Earth since the Suns gravity, that which holds us in orbit, has crushed our planet flat. I'd like someone to explain how that could happen while the Sun revolves around the Earth but if folks believe that it must be true. Kepler and Galileo suggested otherwise and were thrown out of church. (Catholic, not we sinful Anglicans, etc)

Aliens might do well to fill us in on the observations they've made while circling the Earth for so many thousands of years, well the six thou since it was formed. Yeah, it all fits together now.

I know the Earth can't be flat. If it was, cats would have pushed everything off the edge by now.

And explains why an old man in his 70's can make me (40 at the time) look like an absolute sissy going up a flight of stairs at a hotel in Ft Collins Colorado.

He was used to the elevation. I was on my second day up there.

Being acclimated to a 300ft sea level elevation and going up to 5,000ft is a big difference.

Booze will kick your butt at a higher elevation if your not used to it

Maybe this discussion is making you feel uncomfortable? To realize we have been lied to since grade school is unsettling. Don't you understand how hard, as an engineer, it was for me to realize the lies?

/ If there are aliens, what will they look like? #214
Tradosaurus is right in many ways.
It is very difficult to believe how many things have to happen continuously for us to exist. And very little evidence of any other planets like ours with “intelligent“ life.
The setting all seems too perfect. I think it must have been the perfect creation of a higher being…..then we screwed it all up.

But anyways to answer the question “aliens…..what would they look like?
I believe they would look like us, but have longer, kind of lower hanging ears.

LoL...so many here are focused on finding intelligent life (origins unknown)...you can't see the big picture...
...finding any lower life form is the key...whether you realize it or not...finding a unique (lower) life form that did not originate from Earth would actually be more significant than finding what is being termed as "intelligent life"...

That is why I mentioned the Mushroom Spore so many posts ago.

Survivors, those little bits of life are.

And to add to the corn fuse on.

I recently read that a certain species of TIC survived 27 years without eating. And upon getting a blood meal, produced viable off spring (eggs?).

So, Aliens are sure to look like vegetative mater or insects. It's only natural.

Curious too, the present life forms on earth are but a few fractions of a percent of all the life forms that have been present here. Sobering.....

errata.
Flat earthers always have a "northern hemisphere orientation, with the southern pole the great unknown. Why is that?

Not at all...I just don't think you have a clue about science, physics or anything else...most of your posts have been based upon religious beliefs, not science or factual data

I would like to better know how massive stone work, so precisely fitted, displayed on locations around the globe, are found "under" crude and less advanced stonework. Lost civilizations, ALL OVER THE PLACE!

A big erasure occurred, and no one remembers anything......

How arrogant are we to assume we know what intelligent life is LOL.

/ If there are aliens, what will they look like? #220
Oh, the same rabbit hole of improbability being expressed here, as to be plausible to have a theory of intelligent and intentional evolution. What a wonderful fight it is to explain the unlikelihood, using science, of life, and then to have theists jump on the very same band wagon. Its a wonderful Chinese Finger Trap of logic.

The question of what would aliens would look like is a false question. There are no aliens to us and we have never see them even in lower life forms, even in our own solar system. And there will probably never be any intelligent aliens to us, if C is immutable. Everything is too far away. And other galaxies are ever so much more farther away. Its a said fact that we may be an island. And an island of many other islands out there that have intelligent life that will never be able to communicate with each other.
A sensible scientist, has to see this, unless they want to sell Sci-fi or other speculative books. Carl Sagan lied to us. He knew the vastness, of it, and still played along.

He did let us dream.
