Can a diesel engine run on gas. .

This morning tractor was running noisily like a diesel does . I was past empty so I dumped in 5 gallon of fuel. I grabbed a yellow can and dumped it in . . I pretty sure it was diesel in the can but it didn't smell right. Im the only one that fills gas can up so it was me.I did add some diesel winter fuel additive . Since then its running realy rough and knocking and engine noise. smoking way more then normal. So how does a diesel engine react to gas in motor.

I used to put Gas in my tank when I had a Mercedes diesel in the winter. It helped keep the fuel from gelling and helped the engine start but I didn't use much at all.
If you think you put a can of gas in the tank, pump it out.

I saw a less than 10 hour new Kubota at the dealer torn down.

Owners son filled with gasoline and destroyed the engine...

It looked bad inside and only ran about 20 minutes plus there was some diesel in tank.

The reverse of diesel in gas tank has happened several times to friends but no damage done other than pumping tank.

Gas is about twice the octane, but doesn't have the lubricating qualities of diesel. (Neither does kerosene.)
A woman at a local convenience store accidently pumped gas into her diesel Mercedes. She called a friend who works on industrial diesels for a living, and he told her to dump a quart of oil into the tank and carefully drive it to his shop, about 18 miles away.

After I dropped in 5 gallons I ran it plowing for 2 hrs . seemed to be noisier but I didnt have the side panels on the motor. Now what . How to I get the fuel out? Syphon hose ?? . Going to check the fuel filter to see whats there.

How much diesel was in the tank before you put the 5 gallons in?

If you ran it for two hours and there was no issue, probably no issue.

But for peace of mind, just siphon out what is in the tank and put new diesel fuel in...save the siphoned out stuff for the burn pile.

I would also recommend emptying the tank. Depending on your fuel system, you could find a fuel line connection closest to the tank and either gravity drain the tank, or if after an electric lift pump, pump it out with the engine off in the switch in the run position. Read up on bleeding the system when done.
