I don't know of a single member that farms for a living. Some subsidize their income with farming.

How it plays today. Around here, the vast majority of farmers (me included) farm part time and have day (or night) jobs as well and most employers here realize that and make allowances for farming.

i'd say that the bulk of posters on here (the majority of them at least) don't farm at all but own smaller tractors. Most are suburbanites with a CUT or a compact tractor. Not many that own larger units or use them in a profit making scenario, not that there is a whole lot of profit to be made in a small farm operation anyway. Me, I'm content to break even and my 'farming adventures' are a nice alternative to the daily hum drum of country living.

The demographic here is not farmers. Not even close. From what I read, it's predominantly middle aged to retired white guys with small acreage, mostly above average income, mostly conservative viewpoints. Except for the income, that describes me to a T. I was 40 when I joined here. I'm 61 now. Yes, there are people here that farm for a living. And doctors, lawyers, teachers, trades people, factory workers, sales people. All kinds of backgrounds. I'd guess farmers are less than 5% of the makeup. Maybe even less than that. That's probably due to the site is predominantly geared towards compact tractor owners.

This is the ideal American demographic, in my opinion. There is no crime in such a community of people in the real world, and people neither need law enforcement nor guns for self-defense. It's like any idyllic small town USA.

And yet, folks here see evil and want moderators. I don't get it.

With me, it's all about 'user discretion advised'. Been here many years and after a while, you realize that some commenters comments are basically worthless, so you either put them on ignore (which is handy because you don't see the comments unless you choose to or you just skim over them. One thing I've noticed on this site and that is, if someone posts a satirical comment, it's always taken as an insult. No one seems to have any sense of humor on here.

Are you aware that I am talking about a virtual community based on your take on the demographic profile of members here? Posters here are talking to each other from across the country and beyond as though they are next door neighbors. And we all share more or less the same worldview. What are you afraid of? Can't you deal with a heated argument that may surface now and then without a moderator?

No doubt Richard doesnt like me and the feeling is mutual, but I do notice you enjoy making it worse.
Around my way, we call people like that a “weasel”.

I don't dislike you. I just struggle to respect you. And that's because you can't help but call people names. And that's because you don't know any other way to get your point across. And the more you struggle with that the more disrespectful and degrading you become.
